LONDON, ENGLAND: Based on Liu Cixin's Chinese novel 'The Three-Body Problem', Netflix's '3 Body Problem' immerses viewers in an enigmatic realm of bizarre phenomena.
The series, which was initially announced in September 2020, follows the lives of five young scientists who are seeking to solve a peculiar occurrence.
The plot shines the light on Auggie Salazar (Eiza González), who, following the unexpected death of physicist Vera Ye (Vedette Lim), begins to observe an inexplicable countdown that only she can see.
Auggie Salazar starts seeing strange countdown in '3 Body Problem' Episode 1
In the first episode, scientists all around the world are committing suicide, and the only thing connecting their deaths is a weird countdown.
The unusual countdown disrupts the scientists' mental health and causes them to take drastic steps. Auggie seems to be struggling with the same issue.
While drinking with her buddy Jin Cheng (Jess Hong), Auggie notices a weird countdown. She initially dismisses it but becomes concerned after discovering it multiple times.
The situation becomes much more serious when she realizes that the bizarre countdown is only visible to her.
An anonymous woman asks Auggie Salazar to stop her scientific projects in '3 Body Problem' Episode 1
Auggie appeared to be worried by the weird incident, and even a trip to the neurosurgeon could not provide her with an explanation for the bizarre occurrence.
However, rather than unfolding, things become murkier as a strange woman approaches Auggie and discusses the countdown.
Auggie is taken aback and wonders how she knew about it since no one else could see it.
The woman didn't say much about herself and proposed that Auggie needs to quit working on her scientific research or just close her lab, to stop seeing the countdown.
She also advises her to gaze up at the sky at midnight, as the cosmos will wink at her.
Later, it is revealed that Auggie brings Saul Durand (Jovan Adepo) with her to observe what happens at night, and to their surprise, the sky does wink.
