In 'The Boys' Season 4 Episode 4, 'Wisdom of the Ages', the narrative intensifies with multiple intersecting subplots.

Annie aligns with President-Elect Robert Singer to support his anti-superhero bill, which aims to curb Vought’s influence. However, Sister Sage orchestrates a smear campaign against Annie, using Firecracker to lead a public defamation campaign.

Billy Butcher uncovers Firecracker's dark past and attempts blackmail, but she turns the situation to her advantage by publicly confessing, thus gaining sympathy.

Hughie, dealing with his father's deteriorating condition, decides to steal Compound V to save him. With Kimiko and an unwilling A-Train, Hughie retrieves the vial from Homelander’s apartment, but they are attacked by the Shining Light terrorist group, resulting in Hughie’s injury and Kimiko’s confrontation with her past. On the other hand, A-Train is caught by Ashley during the theft, leading to a secret pact between them.

Annie, manipulated by Firecracker’s public revelation of her abortion, loses control and attacks Firecracker, resulting in a public backlash that causes Singer to withdraw his support. Frenchie, feeling guilty for past crimes, confesses to his boyfriend Colin, leading to their breakup.

Butcher, battling his Temp V overdose, experiences violent blackouts and visions of Becca. He discovers that he has both Temp V and Compound V in his system, explaining his erratic behavior.

Sage's brain, constantly growing, requires periodic lobotomies, revealing the use of the bloody tool seen earlier. Hughie decides not to use Compound V on his father, only to find that Daphne has already administered it, reviving his father in a troubled state.

Homelander revisits the Vought facility where he was tortured and manipulated since birth. Discovering that his insecurities were intentionally implanted by top psychologists to control him, he exacts brutal revenge on his tormentors. The episode ends with Homelander, drenched in blood and more menacing than ever, hinting at a deeper descent into his psychosis.

Hughie’s father acquiring superpowers introduces a significant twist to the storyline. As Hughie navigates these developments, Daphne’s motives for injecting her husband with Compound V remain a mystery.

Starlight faces an uphill battle to restore her public image, especially with the introduction of two formidable new members into the Seven.

However, fans can eagerly await Joe Kessler’s possible return, hoping for his tangible presence rather than him being a mere figment of Butcher’s troubled mind.
