JK Rowling reveals the REAL reason she didn't kill off Hagrid in 'Harry Potter'
Over the last two decades, the wildly popular Harry Potter movie franchise has become a household name. If you're a fan, you likely know that the series saw its fair share of deaths. JK Rowling explained why she would never kill off Hagrid in her books. She said she was aware from the beginning that he would be crucial to the book's climactic moment.
As any fan of the books or movies should know, Hagrid had been with Harry since the beginning of the series, bringing him to the Dursleys as a newborn and eventually telling them that he was a wizard 11 years later. So it made sense that he would play a significant part in Harry's journey all the way up to the last book, 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows', which came out in 2007.

Even though Rowling deemed her initial draft of the final chapter of the book to be "rubbish," there was one section that did not change. After the Battle of Hogwarts, she asked Hagrid to take Harry's 'dead' body out of the forest. "It was Hagrid who took him into the world, and Hagrid who would bring him back," said Rowling, as she specifically wanted Hagrid to be the one to take Harry out of the woods. Despite the fact that it "would have been a natural to kill him in some ways," the author said she never contemplated doing so because she had already written the series' finale "during the first year of writing."
Robbie Coltrane, who played 'Rubeus Hagrid' in the movies, reflected on the lasting legacy of Hagrid in HBO Max's 'Harry Potter: Return to Hogwarts', which was released earlier this year. "It's the end of an era. Ten years of my life. My children have grown up during it. The legacy of the movies is that my children's generation will show them to their children... So you could be watching it in 50 year's time, easily... I'll not be here, sadly... but Hagrid will, yes," said Coltrane out of love for the series and of his role as the Hogwarts' groundskeeper.
Robbie Coltrane died on October 14 at the age of 72, his agent, Belinda Wright, confirmed. She said that he had been sick for the past two years. In a statement, Wright said, "Robbie was a unique talent, sharing the Guinness Book of Records’ Award for winning three consecutive Best Actor Baftas for his portrayal of Fitz in Granada TV’s series Cracker in 1994/1995/and 1996 with Sir Michael Gambon. He will probably be best remembered for decades to come as Hagrid in the Harry Potter films. For me personally, I shall remember him as an abidingly loyal client as well as being a wonderful actor, he was forensically intelligent, brilliantly witty and after 40 years of being proud to be called his Agent, I shall miss him," reported LADbible.
