'Dark Matter' Episode 8: Why Daniela Dessen may have missed her chance to be with OG Jason

Even though a version of Jason reunites with Daniela in 'Dark Matter' Episode 8, we doubt if that's the end of his adventures

CHICAGO, ILLINOIS: The sci-fi plot of Apple TV+'s 'Dark Matter' becomes increasingly complex as it approaches the finale.

We have seen two versions of Jason Dessen (Joel Edgerton) over seven episodes.

Jason 1 is trapped in a multiverse trying to return to his reality while Jason 2 is living his new life with Daniela (Jennifer Connelly) and Charlie (Oakes Fegley) after swapping places with Jason 1.

However, Episode 8 leaves us scratching our heads as half a dozen Jasons arrive in Reality 1 trying to be with Daniela.

The 'Jupiter' Jason in Episode 8 might not be the OG Jason of 'Dark Matter'

Midway through the episode, we see a version of Jason sitting in a cafe and smoking a cigar. He gets into an argument with the staff over the no-smoking policy at the cafe, deliberately provoking an arrest.

Through this, he manages to call Daniela to the police station and meets her there. He explains to her about the abduction and how he was sent to another reality by Jason 2.

This version of Jason finally convinces her that he is the OG Jason, and they decide on the code word 'Jupiter' that will help Daniela identify him among the other versions.

By the end of the episode, we see this Jason finally reuniting with Daniela and Charlie. However, there remains doubt whether he is the original Jason we have been following since Episode 1.

Something about this Jason seems off. Even by looking at him sitting at the cafe and smoking a cigar, you get the sense that he is not the Jason we have been rooting for.

This Jason seems confident in his actions while the Jason we know worked without a plan and projected a sense of urgency and nervousness.

Though it's speculative, the Jason whom Daniela met on the road might be the original OG Jason.

We can see the panic in his actions as he rushes Daniela and Charlie into a car. This Jason appears to be acting impulsively without a clear plan.

Daniela only trusted the 'Jupiter' Jason only because he got to her first. This doesn't necessarily mean he is the real Jason.

How will Daniela Dessen choose between multiple versions of Jason in 'Dark Matter'?

At this point, Daniela Dessen cannot identify her real Jason. This is because all these new versions were the same Jason until the abduction.

Therefore, all these Jasons share the same memories with Daniela and hold the same amount of love for her and Charlie.

Only Jason 2 has no chance to be chosen by Daniela because he is the only one who was never married to her.

With this multiverse entanglement, things have only gotten complicated for the Dessen family and we can't stop thinking if the damage done by Jason 2 could ever be reversed.

'Dark Matter' finale episode will air on Apple TV+ on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
