NEW SOUTH WALES, AUSTRALIA: An Australian liberal senator, Hollie Hughes, described Prince Harry and Meghan Markle as “awful, revolting people” on the eve of the Queen Elizabeth II's funeral. However, the New South Wales senator’s shocking outburst on live TV has given birth to several debates online with some social media users complaining about why the senator criticized the couple when she didn't even know them personally.

Senator Hollie Hughes, who has never met the couple, was speaking on Sky News as Prince Harry was preparing to attend the funeral of his grandmother. She largely blamed the former actress Meghan Markle for the couple’s estrangement from the royal family.

The whole world had their eyes on the royals every since the Queen’s death on September 8. During the funeral, Meghan and Harry walked behind Prince William and Kate, and Princess Charlotte and Prince George down the aisle as they got into Westminster Abbey after the Queen’s coffin.

Speaking on Sky News on September 19, she said, “I am sick of both of them. I sort of long for the day where I hope Harry rolls over one day, takes one look and thinks, ‘What have I done?’ and comes to his senses and moves back across the pond. I think he’s made an awful error. And I think she’s well, I think she’s had a terrible influence over him."

The politician went on to add, "She’s a horrible human. It’s absolutely disgraceful. And I don’t know what’s happening with the book that he’s done. Her podcasts apparently they’re going through them now trying to take out parts where she said not particularly kind things about the Queen. They’re awful, revolting, revolting people and I absolutely think they shouldn’t be invited to this and I hope they’re not invited to a lot of other things." Senator Hughes then speculated about Harry and Meghan getting divorced.

Netizens were quick to take note of the inflammatory TV interview and slammed the politician.
