Teen couple killed after being hit by 18-wheeler when boyfriend failed to stop Jeep at intersection

TENNESSEE, UNITED STATES: Tennessee law enforcement reports that a young couple was killed when a commercial vehicle collided with their Jeep. According to the complaint filed by the Tennessee Highway Patrol, 18-year-old Austin Moffitt, was driving with his girlfriend Alexis McCann,19, when he failed to stop at an intersection. According to the investigation, a 2019 18-wheeler Freightliner then collided with the driver-side of the vehicle.

According to the report, the wreck occurred at around 10:30 pm on September 29 at the crossroads of Tennessee State Route 28 and John Burch Road, not far from the town of Dunlap. The report further states that Moffitt, McCann, and the truck driver were all using safety belts. To the truck driver's relief, he was unharmed.

The Sequatchie County Football Facebook page informed McClatchy News that after hearing of the crash, the community came together to pay respect to Moffitt and McCann, who had recently graduated from high school in May. “Austin was a wonderful young man and an outstanding football player. He will always be remembered in our hearts. Alexis was his biggest fan,” Sequatchie County Football wrote in a Facebook post.



 

A former football coach wrote in a Facebook post, “So heartbroken to hear the news of the loss of a former player and students of mine. Austin Moffitt was such a great young man and player. I'll never forget when I told the boys two years ago that I was taking another job. Austin was the first to text me and congratulate me again after I met with them. Alexis was such a sweet girl and a great student. She worked extremely hard. This is such a devastating loss for the community. They will both be missed by many. Pray for these families.”



 

Another post on Facebook reads, “Please keep the family in prayers! I found out this morning that his girlfriend didn't make it either!!! So also pray for her family as well!!” They where both young and had so much more life to live!! Please pray for his mom and dad to help them thur this We will miss you buddy!!! I hope I get to see you again one day!!! We love you!!!”
