Following Prince Philip's funeral on Saturday, April 17, royal commentator Alastair Bruce of Crionaich spoke about the legacy of Duke of Edinburgh. Bruce admitted on Sky News that he made mistakes during his day of broadcasting the funeral ceremony. He joked that if Prince Philip were here, he would have called out and ridiculed the expert's mistakes.

The commentator maintained that this was a part of the Duke's personality and that his attitude would eventually bring out the best in anyone.

'Intolerant of faff'

"I think Prince Philip was incredibly kind and supportive and encouraging," Bruce said, in a report by Express.co.uk. "But he did want people to get on with it and was intolerant of faff," the journalist and television correspondent went on to say.

"Today I have been broadcasting with the Sky team and have made a couple of errors during the day," the senior British Army reservist said. "Prince Philip would have been on those errors in a minute, he would have loved that," Bruce noted, adding: "He would have loved to say, you bl***y idiot."

'A fabulous legacy'

Bruce commented on this and asserted that the Duke had the potential to inspire people to achieve far greater heights than they could previously imagine. "I think that is what made him always such a focus of drive and determination," he said. The sexagenarian commanded the TA Media Operations Group before being appointed in 2019 Governor of Edinburgh Castle.

"People could always be better than they had been. That encouragement through the Duke of Edinburgh scheme was, in his own way, the great legacy he leaves," Bruce said. "It is a fabulous legacy for the Queen to live with and be proud of."

Prince Philip died on Friday, April 9, after struggling with deteriorating health for the past few weeks. The royal family issued a statement that announced the sad news and it read: “It is with deep sorrow that Her Majesty The Queen announces the death of her beloved husband, His Royal Highness The Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Royal Highness passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle. Further announcements will be made in due course. The Royal Family join with people around the world in mourning his loss.”

The Duke of Edinburgh, the longest-serving royal consort in British history, was about to turn 100 in June this year. He was married to Queen Elizabeth for 73 years. The low-key ceremony was attended by immediate members of the royal family, including Charles, Prince of Wales; Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall; Princess Anne; Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence; Prince Andrew, Duke of York; Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex and Sophie, Countess of Wessex. Philip's eight grandchildren, including Prince William and Prince Harry were also present at the event.
