'Beyond insulting': Period product company slammed for referring to customers as 'bleeders'
A London-based period product company named 'Yoppie' has come under the scanner after the company addressed its customers as 'bleeders' in a social media campaign post. Many opined that it was 'dehumanizing' to term females as 'bleeders'.
The post read, "Most bleeders know how they are impacted by their period, but unfortunately aren't in touch with their feelings and symptoms in the other phases of their cycle. We're here to change that." While the caption said, "Our founder & CEO @daniellaperi wants to quit talking about that period and shine a light on the full menstrual cycle ✨🥚👿🩸 Yoppie is here to empower women to take control of their menstrual journey through products and education to ‘Ride Your Cycle’!"

The post left the Internet enraged with many calling out for the company. One of the comments read, "Changing that how? By dehumanizing us by calling us bleeders?" while another said, "Since when did the word women, girl, female became offensive? To all the women don’t buy whatever IT is selling." A user said, "Bleeders? What is wrong with saying that girls and women get periods? As for symptoms, the menstrual cycle is not an illness! Beyond insulting."
The severe backlash resulted in the founder and CEO Daniella Peri issuing a statement clarifying their stand. "I recently referred to women as ‘bleeders’, but also in the same post used ‘women’. I used the word ‘bleeders’ for our new campaign ‘Ride your cycle’ as I feel it best describes the point we are trying to make; that ‘menstrual health’ is so much more than the days you bleed." said the founder and CEO, Daniella Peri. She also says that "Yoppie was designed to bust the social stigma around period blood, as well as being inclusive to people who menstruate who are not women".
Yoppie was founded in 2016. This is a subscription-based period product company that aims at providing vegan and eco-friendly tampons, pads, panty liners, etc. Additionally, they also offer supplements and skincare products. Before launching her new venture at Yoppie, Peri worked for a privately owned high-level consulting firm in London. She left it to run her business full time in 2019.
