LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: ‘To All the Boys’ movie franchise turned out to be a gigantic success and that’s why Netflix decided to continue the story by coming out with a spin-off series based on the acclaimed movie series. Title ‘XO, Kitty’, the spin-off series primarily focuses on the life of Kitty, the younger sister of Lara Jean (Lana Condor), who is trying to find her prince charming. In the very first episode of the series, viewers get to know that Kitty is finally in a relationship with Dae and is madly in love with him. However, they are in a long-distance relationship because Dae is currently studying at the Korean Independent School of Seoul, South Korea.

They both romance on video calls and now that it’s summer in Portland, everyone is spending time with their special someone. She talks to Dae (Choi Min-Young) on a video call but the connection is really poor and they are not able to talk properly. During the video call, she receives a voice call from ‘KISS’ (Korean Independent School of Seoul), and turns out she has been accepted into the school. Kitty (Anna Cathcart) enrolled in that school so that she can live closer to Dae and also learn a lot more about her Korean heritage because her mother, Eve Song, also went to the same school. Without any guesses, she talks to her father and requests to go to Seoul to learn more about her mother, culture, and obviously, Dae. Her father, Dan Covey (John Corbett), says yes and lets her go for this adventure.

Kitty reaches Seoul to give Dae a surprise

She is ready to take Seoul by storm, but as soon as she reaches, it’s Seoul who takes her by surprise. The majority of people don’t speak English and those who do, believe Americans are too “excited” for everything and talk too loud. Kitty is having difficulties is reading the route maps and gets involved in a car accident. A girl named Yuri Han comes out of the car and after a little chat with Kitty, it turns out Yuri is also a student of K.I.S.S. and gives Kitty a lift in her car. Kitty reaches school and can’t wait to meet Dae. She makes her way to the reception in order to find a room in the dorm and waits for the evening because that is when she is going to meet Dae.

On the other hand, Yuri is in trouble for embracing a girl named Juliana in the school, and her mother, who also happens to be the principal of K.I.S.S., is not happy with that news. Yuri forms a fake story that they were just hugging each other and there’s nothing between them because she is dating a guy from school. Did Dae really cheat on Kitty?

The moment has finally arrived and the party has begun. Kitty is excited to see Dae and Yuri is also looking out for Dae. It turns out Yuri has asked Dae to be her boyfriend so that her mother doesn’t doubt her. In return, she will help her with everything he needs. But things get really weird when Kitty comes to the party and hugs Dae tightly. Yuri comes and lets her know that Dae is her “boyfriend” and they have dated each other for a while now. Kitty gets completely broken after hearing this and Dae is unable to tell her the truth because of Yuri and the influence that her family holds.

Dae is the child of a Chauffer who works for Yuri’s father and even though they don’t love each other, they have to play this game so that her parents don’t get to know about her apparent relationship with Juliana.

The first episode ends with Kitty crying and walking out of the party while thinking that she was in a relationship with a “total liar.”
