'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire': Why is Episode 9 not airing this week? Here's what to expect when show returns

'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' aired last week on Sunday. It's the second season to return during the pandemic and air in the primetime slot. The previous season that began airing sometime in April earlier this year saw a number of celebrities play the game for a choice of their charity. Now the current season premiered in mid-October but invited frontline heroes to play the game. The show wanted to give back to people who kept the world functioning by showing up when the coronavirus was at its peak, causing a complete shutdown of the world except for essential services. These heroes were given a chance to play the game and try to win money for themselves. Along with them, a number of celebrities too were invited to play to raise money for organizations of their choice.

Last week, Episode 8 aired, and sitting opposite show host Jimmy Kimmel was registered nurse Amanda Sheehan. She played well but faced a huge hiccup while answering the $125,000 question. It was related to 'Toy Story 4' and even though she was huge on Disney movies, she could not answer this correctly and ended up losing close to $93,000 and went home with the minimum $32,000 prize money. Next to join the game was Cedric the Entertainer. His run on the game too wasn't impressive even after he claimed at the beginning that he felt very prepared to answer all the questions. He said he had an idea about the questions and was confident he'd do well given the fact that he was a host of the daytime edition of this show in the past.

Then came Rebel Wilson, she joined the game only during the last 12 minutes of the episode. She played a couple of initial questions but it wasn't long before the times up alarm sounded off. She was playing for The School of St. Jude in Tanzania. People expecting to see her return on their screens tonight on the show, here's some news for you. 'WWTBAM' is on a holiday break and will return only on Sunday, January 3, 2021. Instead, ABC is airing 'The Sound of Music' between 7 pm and 11 pm tonight, Sunday, December 20, 2020.

'Who Wants to Be a Millionaire' airs on Sundays at 9 pm ET on ABC.
