A normal virtual class of school students turned into a bizarre event after an elderly woman interrupted it to rant about Black Lives Matter (BLM) movement and former US president Barack Obama. The place and date of the incident are not known but the whole episode was uploaded to TikTok, and which has been circulated on several other online platforms. The unidentified woman, dubbed a “Zoom Karen”, suddenly crashed her granddaughter’s virtual class, where she was heard arguing with her granddaughter’s teacher as the latter tried to calm her down by saying, “All we're talking about are historical events.”

But the teacher’s attempt angered her further as she replied, “No, you're talking about BLM and all that stuff. And we're not going to talk about it. Unless you want to hear what I have to say.”

The old woman then suddenly brought up Obama in her argument, claiming that he was “biracial”. “And Barack Obama was biracial. He wasn't just black. He should have owned both sides of his family,” she added. The teacher again attempted to cool down the granny as she told her: “Ma'am, we're reading a story about a historical event, and the question that was presented to the students is: 'What's the most important historical event that's happened in your lifetime?'"

But apparently, that was not enough for the woman who responded, “Well, how did BLM show up?” To which the teacher said, “Your granddaughter brought it up.” According to reports, the video which was first shared on TikTok on Tuesday, September 22, by California-based sneaker seller @stayflyest has received over 1.1 million views. “Found the Karen of Zoom class,” the caption of the clip read.

Some people on Twitter showed their displeasure with the video, with one saying, “Damn it Karen. Stop it.” Another commented: “Oh great. They’re everywhere.” While a third user wrote: “Te digo. It’s disheartening to see how this grown a** white woman is willing to traumatize these children because she can’t put the teacher aside and speak to her about the situation. I feel for this educatxr too.”

“That teacher has patience from god. This woman has no right to interrupt this class. This is pathetic!” added a person on Twitter.

In another incident, a ‘Karen’ was spotted in an Arizona commuter train as she was caught abusing her co-passengers using racial slurs. The video of the incident was uploaded on Reddit that showed a middle-aged woman wearing capri pants, a pink top, and short-cropped/bobbed hair riding the Valley Metro Rail, in Tempe, Arizona, without wearing a face mask amid the Covid-19. As the unidentified woman was inside the train, she said something which was not audible, but then she stated, “I wouldn’t have had to wait in the goddamn sun for 20 minutes!” to a Black security guard. The guard seemingly ignored her and shifted to another side when she made remarks on his education and yelled: “If you had one, you wouldn’t be working for 10 dollars an hour for the bus company, you [expletive].” The guard soon confronted her, while a man, who apparently recorded the video, told the woman: “Oh no, you’re not going to do that. You’re not gonna call somebody that word. I don’t care who it is.” To which she responded: “I don’t care who you are, [expletive].”
