Who is Melanie C?

Most people know Melanie C or Mel C as a member of the popular British girl band Spice Girls. Mel C was popularly dubbed Sporty Spice. She was born in January 1974 in Whiston, Lancashire to Joan O’Neill, a secretary, and Alan Chisholm, a lift technician. The 47-year-old described her childhood as 'chaotic' and 'disruptive' owing to her parents' separation when she was just two.

Mel C became an overnight sensation following the smashing success of the iconic Spice Girls' 1996 debut single 'Wannabe'. The track topped the charts in 37 countries, and the band's debut album 'Spice' sold millions of copies across the globe, setting the record of becoming the bestselling album of all time by a female group.

The Spice Girls- which comprised of Emma Bunton (Baby Spice), Geri Halliwell (Ginger Spice), Melanie Brown (Scary Spice), Victoria Beckham (Posh Spice), and Mel C, went on to sell more than 85 million records, released three studio albums, 13 singles, and won a host of awards including a BRIT for Outstanding Contribution to British Music.

Since they broke up in 1996, Mel C has steadily worked on building a solo career and even managed to bag two number one hits in the UK. Alongside her solo career, Mel has also become a staple on tv shows, starring as vocal coach on ITV's 'The Voice', 'Gogglebox', and even doing several interviews on various talk shows. In 2012, Melanie reunited with the Spice Girls for what she described as the highlight of their career as a group – performing at the Olympic Closing Ceremony in London.

Will Spice Girls perform on 'DWTS'?

In an essay she penned down in 2016 for Love Magazine, Mel C wrote, "The fascination with the band never seems to go away. It's a blessing and a curse all at the same time. Although the Spice Girls might haven't done a reunion tour or performance in a while, don't strike out the possibility of that happening on the ABC show. During an interview with ET, when Mel C was asked if the fans would get an opportunity to watch the all-girls band come together and perform on the show, Mel C didn't rule it out. She said, "I really hope so. I think that could really... should we manifest that that is gonna happen?" The ladies came together back in 2007 when Mel B competed on the show's season 5.

In the meanwhile, Mel c is pretty excited to be taking part in the dance competition show. She took to her Instagram to announce to her followers that she would be competing on the show. She wrote, "I have a little surprise for you all! 💥🙌😍 I’m so excited to announce that I will be appearing on the new season of Dancing With The Stars @dancingabc and I can’t wait to get going!"

'Dancing with the Stars' Season 30 premieres on Monday, September 20, at 8/7c on ABC.
