'Wild Mountain Thyme': Who is Jamie Dornan's wife? Meet Amelia Warner, Colin Ferrell's alleged ex-wife
For most people, the name Jamie Dornan is synonymous with the infamous 'Fifty Shades' franchise. He was the man who dared essay the role of the problematic and domineering Christian Grey, thus becoming a household name overnight. Five years later, Dornan would very much like to step out of that avatar as he embodies the handsome and aloof Anthony in John Patrick Shanley's 'Wild Mountain Thyme' starring opposite the stunning Emily Blunt, the film promises aesthetic backdrops and that accent one can never have enough of.
And to go with the flavours, the perfect after taste is added via an ethereal soundtrack, joined by none other than Amelia Warner. Not many might know, but Warner is Dornan's wife of 10 years, and their love story I a poster child of relationships plagued by tabloids and Hollywood sh*storm.
While Dornan is pretty famous as the man who is the 'Fifty Shades' franchise's face, Warner too is quite popular in her field, having been an acclaimed musician and composer for years now. A former actress, she has also previously recorded and performed as a musician under her past stage name, Slow Moving Millie. Her acting career kickstarted as a member of the Royal Court's youth theatre group, following which she starred in a 2000 BBC adaptation of 'Lorna Doone', and then moved on to supporting roles in films such as 'Æon Flux' and 'Stoned'.
Warner's first classical instrumental EP 'Arms' came out in 2015, and just a year later, she started scoring films like 'Mum's List' and 'Mary Shelley', before her 2017 EP titled 'Visitors' was released under her own name. Warner received the 2018 International Film Music Critics Association Award for Breakthrough Composer of the Year for her debut work in 'Mary Shelley' and in June 2020, her latest EP 'Haven' came out.
Warner, who's been busy through the years with scoring films and releasing EP, is also a mother of three children whom she shares with husband Dornan. But this wasn't her first marriage. Warner had allegedly tied the knot with British superstar Colin Farrell in a non-legal ceremony after meeting at the premiere of 'Quills' in 2000. The two dated from July to November 2001 and during that time are believed to have gotten married, and divorced, which Farell has recounted as "Too fast, too young".
Clearly, that wasn't the case with Dornan, who was immediately smitten with his current wife the first time he looked her way and claims to love her even more today. "I was smitten from the start, I really was. I’m more in love with her today than I was at the start, so no," Dornan once told the Belfast Telegraph.
The very private and secretive couple absolutely love keeping their quiet family life out of the media - something one would find unimaginable after the fame Dornan acquired owing to the Fifty Shades saga. They first met at a party back in 2007 and only commenced their relationship three years later, in 2010. Another three years and the couple were officially married in 2013, and soon welcomed first child, their daughter Dulcie. Another daughter, Elva followed in 2015, in March 2019, they welcomed another one called Alberta.
Both Dornan and Warner have credited their growing family as a grounding force that made them only stronger with rumours and tabloids playing around once the actor became a part of the erotica anchored film franchise. Outlets started speculating the couple's marriage was on the rocks, given the steamy movie-scenes with Dakota Johnson. But Dornan recounts how Warner, although pregnant with their first child at the time, breezed through these media shenanigans and his insane filming schedule.
“The more public interest there is in you, the more horrible people become,” Dornan had shared with The Telegraph. “People start to say disgusting things about your family, about your children.” That aid, Dornan couldn't stop gushing about he understanding Warner had always been about the kind of role he had committed to for 'Fifty Shades', and the erotic scenes he would have to essay on camera. "My wife is a brilliant, hugely understanding person," Dornan told OK! magazine, adding: "A lot of people would have had a s*** fit at 30-something weeks pregnant hearing, ‘Darling, we’re going to Vancouver this week for four months — we’re going to have a Canadian baby and I’m going to do a film where, for parts of it, I will be naked.’ That’s a tough pitch, but my wife is an incredible person."
As for Warner, the drama and hype over the franchise didn't phase her, either their relationship built on support and a bond unlike any other. “It doesn’t impact our life much in a day-to-day way. Nothing has really changed in our lives since Fifty Shades,” Warner told the Belfast Telegraph, adding: “The biggest change for us was having kids […] We are very removed from all the hype. I don’t see that stuff in the papers."
Dornan too has resonated with these sentiments in his interviews. “You know, I sort of don’t feel like [my life] has changed that much. The making of these movies coincided with me becoming a father, and I’ve had two kids in the time we’ve made these films, so that’s changed my life immeasurably,” Dornan told Entertainment Tonight, adding: "It is totally life-transforming. So, in a way, it’s been great because […] it’s been the perfect distraction from what would be changing my life if they hadn’t come along — if it was just about this franchise.”
Dornan and Warner's marriage is also a testament to how much the latter has done for their family while he was off filming. “The first [child] we had in Canada, and I started filming three days after she was born. The second one we had in London, and I flew to Canada ten days later and started filming the second [movie]," Dornan once told Jommy Kimmel on his talk show, stressing on how he's “never missed a birth — I couldn’t live with myself if I missed the birth". Adding that he was "sort of at the mercy of Fifty Shades‘ schedule, I think for this (Warner's third pregnancy) one, I’m going to have a lot more control […] This time, I’m trying to take proper time off for a few months after as well".
Even though a massive fan of his wife's music and talent, which his thoroughly enthuses about on his social media, the couple is like any other when it comes to disagreements. Believe it or not, the perfect match does "get frustrated at times, usually when traveling with the kids, but we’d never let anything boil and become a thing. We know couples who are plate-throwers, but that’s just not us. I’m glad it’s not us — plates are expensive,” Dornan once joked to the Sunday Times. How do they find their fix? “Certainly there’s never a day that I don’t tell her I love her," he shared.
