The Beijing Winter Olympics of 2022 may have ended but the drama that surrounds it definitely has not. Many K-pop idols have been embroiled in the South Korea versus China debate where Chinese members of multiple groups were being put under scrutiny for their lack of support for South Korea, the country in which they are promoting as K-pop idols. Aespa’s Ningning was highly by this issue as her congratulatory message to a Chinese athlete on the social media app, Bubble directed a lot of hate from Korean netizens.

Almost a month since the controversy, Ningning is back as she greets fans with a video, a set of photographs, and two text messages on Bubble. Fans of the girl group welcomed the aespa member back after her short hiatus following the backlash from her last message on the app but the latest update also has some Knetz lashing out at her for writing one of her texts in Mandarin.

Ningning’s message in Chinese gets hate

While fans rejoiced over Ningning’s returns, all the haters know is to hate. Ningning is being called out on Korean chat platforms where Knetz is calling her a hypocrite for writing her comeback update in Chinese. On February 24, Ningning made a return to the Bubble app with two text messages that read, “I missed you.” and “Goodnight” to her fans but Korean citizens are taking it the wrong way.

Antis are now calling Ningning out for writing in Chinese on an app that is meant for Korean fans. They are also complaining that despite the controversy that had originally landed Ningning in hot water at the beginning of February 2022, she is choosing to rebel against the online users who had trolled her. Users online were seen saying, ‘Ningning, Go Back to China’ and many other slanders towards the idol that has led fans to rush in support of her.

‘Don't listen to those people, Ningning’

Fans of Ningning are confused about Ningning suddenly getting hate on sending a Chinese message on Bubble when the aespa member was seen doing the same for a long time since her debut. One fan said, “Knetizen, please stop criticizing our ningning, korea is a diverse country and lots of foreign people. Her using chinese in bubble doesn't make her less her, she's born and raise in China. Of course she loves her own country.” Another fan said, “Knetz doing more of the same smh what a shocker lol. NingNing you go queen, you're an amazing person and we're here to support you in any way, don't listen to those people that doesnt know how to respect others. Love you!”

One fan said, “Ningning is a queen. She came back like she was unbothered and is still using mandarin in her bubble after being attacked for it. Man y’all can’t tear this girl down.” Another fan said, “I saw a thirteen year old on my tl yesterday quote someone who was talking about ningning’s bubble saying how insensitive they are 💀 “wow you’re talking about a bubble message? wth is wrong with you there is a war going on!” like girl.” One fan said, “Ningning, who is chinese, getting hate for sending messages on bubble...in chinese? her own language?”

One more fan said, “Seems like the fact that Ningning was already using multiple times Chinese on bubble (and nobody complained) even before she openly supported the Chinese team in the Olympics will always be ignored. Typical knetz behavior, I'm not surprised.” Another fan said, “So now it is a crime for NingNing to post Bubble in Chinese. Are we forgetting that she is in fact Chinese, she has always posted in Chinese but now it’s problem. You knetizens are what’s wrong with kpop at this point. You are targeting idols for everything and just bullying.”
