LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The 96th Academy Awards viewers spotted red pins with the celebrities' dazzling outfits and were left wondering about their meaning. However, the fashionable red carpet turned into political statements as the Hollywood A-list stars donned the red pins to support the Artists4Ceasefire campaign to call out a ceasefire in Gaza to protect trans children and fight for pay equity in the entertainment industry.

The organization featured 55 prominent artists and advocates from the entertainment industry who stood against the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas. They recently signed an open letter to President Biden and urged him to call for an immediate de-escalation and ceasefire in Gaza and Israel. The letter reads, "We urge your administration, Congress, and all world leaders, to honor all of the lives in the Holy Land and call for and facilitate a ceasefire without delay - an end to the bombing of Gaza, and the safe release of hostages."

The statement continued in the letter, "Half of Gaza's two million residents are children, and more than two thirds are refugees and their descendants being forced to flee their homes. Humanitarian aid must be allowed to reach them." However, the viewers were left confused over the red pin and question on social media.

The Netflix documentary reflects on the reality of a Tunisian mother whose eldest two daughters joined the Islamic State group.

Filmmaker Kaouther Ben Hania, the first Arab woman to land two Oscar nominations, attached the red pin to her blue sequin gown. Producer Nadim Cheikhrouha also donned a red Arists4Ceasefire pin. Live-action short Oscar nominee Misan Harriman also arrived at Hollywood's Dolby Theatre in his velvet green lapel with a pin.

'Poor Things' star Ramy Youssef, who arrived at the 96th Academy Awards to present an award, looked dapper in an all-black ensemble with a red pinned to his lapel. He explained at the red pin and noted, "We're calling for immediate, permanent ceasefire in Gaza." The actor elaborated, "We're calling for peace and lasting justice for the people of Palestine. It's a universal message of, 'Let's stop killing kids. Let's not be part of more war."

Youssef also shared, "We need to look at ourselves and be honest, if the leadership supposedly thinks that should happen, why has it not happened? That's what we're all encouraging everyone to be vocal about."
