NEW YORK CITY, NEW YORK: New York City Mayor Eric Adams has come forward to vehemently deny the bombshell sexual assault allegations leveled by an unidentified woman, who claims to be his former colleague.

The woman filed the lawsuit in Manhattan on Wednesday, November 22, alleging Adams sexually assaulted her in 1993 when he was serving as a New York police officer.

“Plaintiff was sexually assaulted by Defendant Eric Adams in New York, New York in 1993 while they both worked for the City of New York,” the summons read, according to the Associated Press.

The three-page filing revealed no additional detail but listed the transit bureau of the New York Police Department and the New York Police Department Guardians Association as defendants along with Adam.

Additionally, the suit has alleged serious charges including sexual assault, battery, and employment discrimination based on gender, in addition to claims of retaliation and the creation of a hostile work environment, according to NBC News.

In the lawsuit, the plaintiff is seeking a trial and at least $5 million in damages, as well as attorney's fees and interest.

The woman filed her claims under the expiring Adult Survivors Act of New York, which allowed victims of sexual assault to bring suits that would have otherwise been time-barred for up to a year.

What did Eric Adams say about the allegations?

In remarks to reporters on Thursday, November 23, Adams denied the sexual allegations, stating that he did not remember meeting the woman.

“It absolutely did not happen. I don’t recall ever meeting this person and I would never harm anyone in that magnitude. It did not happen,” Adams said, according to CBS News.

“It did not happen, and that is not who I am and that is not who I’ve ever been in my professional life and, you know, it’s just something that never took place,” he continued.

In a statement, a City Hall spokesperson echoed similar claims, noting that the mayor “vigorously denies” the allegations against him.

“The mayor does not know who this person is. If they ever met, he doesn’t recall it,” the spokesperson said, according to the Hill “But he would never do anything to physically harm another person and vigorously denies any such claim,” the statement added.

The lawsuit against Adams, 63, is the latest one filed under the Adult Survivors Act, which also saw victims file lawsuits against famous male celebrities, including rapper and music mogul Sean “Diddy” Combs, Academy Award-winning actor Jamie Foxx, Interscope Records co-founder Jimmy Iovine, Guns N’ Roses frontman Axl Rose and comedian Bill Cosby.

Internet reacts to allegations leveled against Eric Adams

The sexual assault allegations leveled against Adams have garnered immense social media attention, with users suggesting that the mayor is being framed after speaking up against the migrant crisis.

“Don't care. It was 20 years ago. Why bring it up now? Show me da money,” one user said. “No surprise that Eric Adams spoke out against the Biden admin's disastrous handling of the border crisis. Now, conveniently, he's facing accusations. 🤔 The left's dirty tactics know no bounds,” a second user wrote.

“Could this all be a setup to target him for speaking out on illegal immigrants? Or is that just conspiracy thinking?” the third user stated while the fourth asserted “He is getting a taste of his own political party, isn't it ironic?”

“Step out of line, quit following the narrative…this will happen,” the fifth user said, “I’ve always liked Eric Adams. I don’t agree with him on a lot but I do feel he’s being persecuted,” one more wrote.
