LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: Apple TV+'s 'Palm Royale' scores 11 nominations at Emmy 2024 following its global debut in March this year.

The comedy-period drama is competing against 'The Bear', 'Abbott Elementary', 'Reservation Dogs' and four more titles in the 'Best Comedy Series', along with Kristen Wiig being placed under the nominations for lead actress in a comedy series.

'Palm Royale' steals spotlight from more worthy series

Emmy 2024 nominations arrived on Wednesday, July 17, 2024, and have been no less than a disappointment. While the placement of 'The Bear' in comedy category is a debate for another day, the nominations of 'Palm Royale' has left us bewildered.

As mentioned in our review, 'Palm Royale' is a half-baked series, wasting the pool of talent to dull narrative. Viewers aren't like the show's protagonist Maxine, who is drawn to the extravagant lifestyle and stunning costumes.

The non-engaging plots of each annoying character were bad enough, but the creators further disappointed us with one of the dumbest finales we've seen in recent times.

With no remarkable comedy moments, 'Palm Royale' unfortunately stole the spot from much worthy series. If you may ask, Emma Stone starrer 'The Curse' deserved a place at Emmy 2024 and its absence has truly been a shock.

'Palm Royale' pales in comparison to Showtime's series, which offers satirical black comedy with thrilling elements, whereas 'Palm Royale' remains bland throughout.

Another series that was more deserving than Kristen Wiig starrer was HBO's 'The Sympathizer' that has several unforgettable comic moments despite the dark theme revolving around war.

Even the characters in both series have more gravitas than the absurd, non-convincing characters in 'Palm Royale'.

Sorry, Kristen Wiig! It isn't your fault

We love Kristen Wiig, we really do! We've rooted for her in the past and felt bad for her when she didn't take home an Emmy, despite being nominated more than half a dozen times.

This time too, she truly gives her best to portray Maxine, a wannabe socialist. But its the over-the-top and childish narrative that fails her.

Even the fans on X agree that 'Palm Royale' doesn't do justice to her talent. After the announcement of Emmy nominations, someone wrote on X, "Palm Royale was a mess from start to finish. Kristen Wiig deserved so much better than that script. The whole thing felt like a lazy attempt to recreate the magic of Brid(gerton)."

"The weirdest thing about Palm Royale is that Kristen Wiig *does* play a comedic character, especially physically, but it feels like they removed all of her punchlines? Like there are no jokes?" added another fan.

Apple TV+ has solely relied on the big names on the cast list- Kristen Wiig, Allison Janney, Laura Dern, Carol Burnett — and it may not be easy for fans to crticize such ensemble cast coming together for a mediocre plot.

The attempts to recreate a bygone era pays off at Emmy 2024 with nominations in Outstanding Period Costumes for a Series; Hairstyling; and; makeup (non-prosthetic).

Are the outer appearances of the characters appealing? Yes! But they do come out as cartoonish at times. This again can be contributed to the faulty narrative that lacked depth in any character.

We hope to have no further disappointments at the award ceremony scheduled to premiere on September 15, 2024.
