Aaron Pierre officially joins 'Man of Tomorrow' and his role could expand DC's Green Lantern story
Aaron Pierre has officially joined the cast of James Gunn's 'Man of Tomorrow,' the highly anticipated sequel to the 2025 film 'Superman.' The British actor has already been cast as the Green Lantern hero John Stewart in HBO's upcoming series 'Lanterns,' and he will reprise his role in the sequel. Stewart is an intergalactic space cop and member of the Green Lantern Corps, who is tasked with patrolling Earth. Stewart's addition to the film is part of Gunn’s vision to integrate DC movies and television shows into one DC screen universe. Gunn will write and direct the next story in the Superman Saga, which will land in theaters on July 9, 2027.
David Corenswet will reprise his role as Superman while Nicholas Hoult will play Lex Luthor in the rebooted franchise's next installment. The two are set to join forces to fight against the technological alien threat known as Brainiac, who will be portrayed by the German actor Lars Eidinger. Brainiac's superior intellect and cosmic powers make him one of Superman’s most dangerous foes. The DC sequel will also feature a second antagonist, Queen Maxima, ruler of the planet Almerac, as per a report by Nexus Point News.
The next installment will also mark the return of Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, Skyler Gisondo as Jimmy Olsen, Sara Sampaio as Eve Teschmacher, and Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr. Furthermore, Isabela Merced will be back as Hawkgirl, and Maria Gabriela de Faria will play Angela Spica / The Engineer. 'Man of Tomorrow' will begin production in April at Trilith Studios in Atlanta, Georgia, and will also be filmed over the next couple of months at locations in Macon, Georgia, Cincinnati, Ohio, and the United Kingdom. The upcoming film will be produced by Gunn and Peter Safran, the co-CEO of DC Studios, with Lars P. Winther serving as executive producer.
Pierre is making his DC Studios debut with 'Lanterns,' the studio's first live-action series, which will be out in August this year. Fans earlier got a glimpse of Pierre playing the intergalactic space cop when HBO released the show's first trailer last week. It shows Kyle Chandler's veteran Lantern, Hal Jordan, training the new recruit, Stewart, while investigating a murder in Nebraska. There's no word yet on whether other members of the Green Lantern Corps, such as Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner (Nathan Fillion), will feature in 'Man of Tomorrow.' Either way, fans can watch them together in the HBO series in August.
