The DCU will see Superman return in 'Man of Tomorrow'. The sequel picks up the story of Clark Kent after his 'Superman' movie last year. Ahead of the film's principal photography, Nicholas Hoult had a surprise update for the franchise faithful.

Taking to Instagram, Hoult who plays Lex Luthor in the film shared a snapshot of his beefed-up transformation. The picture shows a beefed-up British actor flexing his bicep. His return in DCU's Chapter 1: 'Gods and Monsters' after his cameo on 'Peacemaker' Season 2. Per reports, the dynamic between Luthor and Superman will be different in 'Man of Tomorrow'. The film will see the two unite to combat a larger threat. Earlier, James Gunn announced that Lars Eidinger was playing Brainiac in the movie.

"The story in Man of Tomorrow, it is slightly tonally different from Superman," Gunn said. "Superman’s more comic-booky in some ways than Man of Tomorrow, and it has to do with the dual characters of Lex and Superman at the center of Man of Tomorrow and other things." He also shed light on Luthor's personality. "I think I'm just more interested in getting into the heart of Lex and seeing how he fits into all of this. I think getting to know more of Lex as a human being. I think we saw a lot about the evil part of Lex."

"He's pretty evil… I think he, as a character, is really interesting," the DCU head honcho added. "There's something, despite everything, that is incredibly heroic about Lex. Take aside morality, which is hard to do, but here is this guy who’s saying, 'You can hold up a building. You can shoot down planes with your eyes. Fuck you, I'm going to kick your ass because I'm better than you.’ I can't help but admire his tenacity and his ego. I mean, his ambition is beyond compare."

At the time of writing, there is no official teaser or a first look from the film. But with photography set to commence, it will only be a matter of time before DCU drops some major news on the upcoming film. 'Man of Tomorrow' releases July 9, 2027.
