Who was Jackson Eyre? Young adult among 5 dead at Fort Myers car crash wanted to be a professional welder
FORT MYERS, FLORIDA: Five young adults were found dead in a car crash after their vehicle crashed into Fort Myers Lake on Sunday night, June 25. Four of the victim were off their shift at a local restaurant just moments before the Kia car carrying the 18 to 19 aged teens submerged in a retention pond.
Police confirmed that there were a total of three men and two women inside the car. The Texas Roadhouse chain restaurant where the four young adults worked shared their identities as Jackson Eyre, Amanda Ferguson, Breanna Coleman, and Eric Cox. The fifth victim was identified as Jesus Salinas, Breanna's boyfriend, reported Daily Mail.
Who was Jackson Eyre?
Eyre who hoped to become a professional welder was set to attend Fort Myers Technical College after he recently graduated from South Fort Myers High School. He was working at the nearby steakhouse where three other teenagers who died in the crash also worked either manning the to-go station or as hosts.
Eyre's father William Eyre works at South Fort Myers High as the head baseball coach after he served as a pitching coach at Canterbury School from 2015 to 2020. His mother, Rachel Eyre works as an assistant principal of the Bonita Springs High School. The South Fort Myers baseball team shared a tribute to Eyre as they wrote, "Anytime someone passes, we lose a little bit of who we are. It hurts even more when it's one of our own."
What led to the accident?
The vehicle carrying the five young adults crashed into a retention pond off Top Golf Way. The accident took place sometime between 10.00 pm Sunday and early Monday morning and the car was later removed from Fort Myers Lake by the FMPD officers.
Sharing an update about the investigation, FMPD detective Kyle Martin stated, "The investigation is in its very infancy," and added, "We’re still completing an investigation, so there’s not a whole lot of details we can provide as far as the mechanisms or what happened at the moment, so that’s still ongoing." All five teenagers were pronounced dead after they were found inside the vehicle.
Following the crash, the Texas Roadhouse chain restaurant mourned the loss of their teenagers. In a statement posted to Facebook, the restaurant wrote, "We are deeply saddened by the tragic loss of four of our Roadies."
"Our team is grieving alongside their families and friends. We appreciate the support of our Fort Myers community during this difficult time," read the statement.
