LEE COUNTY, FLORIDA: Graham McGrath, a teenaged college student who reportedly plunged into Lake Como while boating with friends, has died. 

McGrath was a student of the Florida Gulf Coast University and fell into the lake around 7.00pm on Wednesday, August 23.

After hours of search and multiple agencies' involvement, his body was retrieved on Thursday around 11.20 a.m.

According to The New York Post, Lee County Sheriff Carmine Marceno said, “We were hoping and praying that we were going to find him in good health.Unfortunately, that was not the case.”



 

No evidence of foul play yet in Graham McGrath’s case

The sheriff told the reporters that they did not find any signs of foul play. However, he stated a probe was still underway. 

“I will tell you, everything that we do we are suspicious in nature and, until we prove otherwise factually, we treat everything as if it is,” Marceno said.

He added, “Our thoughts and prayers are with Graham’s family and the entire FGCU family.”

McGrath’s 13 friends, who were with him when he fell, were also questioned after the incident.

Gulf Coast president Aysegul Timur wrote on Twitter, “It is with deep sadness that I inform you of the passing of Graham McGrath, the FGCU student who tragically went missing yesterday afternoon while on a private boat on the shared lake between the university and Miromar Lakes.”



 



 

“Our hearts and deepest sympathy go out to Graham’s family, the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, his friends, and all members of our Eagle community as we cope with this unfortunate tragedy,” she added.

MacGrath was a member of the  Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity, which remembered him as “a kind soul." It stated, “His ambitious character and his gravitating personality were able to show what it means to be a true PIKE."
