SCOTTSBURG, INDIANA: A woman, who died after giving birth, has been remembered as “a selfless leader." Devonnia Tscheulin died on Tuesday, August 15, at St Vincent’s Hospital in Indianapolis, according to her husband Michael.

Tscheulin, 34, is survived by her husband and three young children, including a baby boy named Maverick Edward, whom she delivered on Monday, August 14. “I do not have the words,” Michael wrote on Facebook after the tragedy.



 

Who was Devonnia Tscheulin?

Tscheulin was Scott County's EMS’ Paramedic Deputy Chief Director. Her husband, Michael, is a Major/Training Coordinator at the Monroe Township Fire Department. After her death, Scott County EMS Chief Nick Oleck took to Facebook to remember her.

Oleck wrote, “Devonnia was one for the most important people in my life. She shared the same passion that I did, however, wasn't afraid to disagree. She was exactly who I needed. She was the one person who knew how to continually keep me grounded.”



 

Devonnia Tscheulin was ‘a joyful soul’

Calling her “a selfless leader,” Oleck shared, “She was a joyful soul who could light up a room without trying. She made a presence without speaking, she made an impact without trying.”

He added, “Devonnia, you will NEVER be replaced. Your number is forever yours and has been retired in the confines of this department. I will always cherish what we have built and succeeded in.”

Michael, whom Tscheulin hd been married to for 10 years, posted a statement on his Facebook page. It read, “Thank you for the outpouring of support for our entire family and our community. I appreciate your continued thoughts and prayers for our family as we go through this trying time."



 

A person commented on his post, "Praying for you and your family." Another wrote, "So very sorry Michael… if you need anything you know how to find us…"

A third shared, "Sorry for your loss Mike. Your family along with the Sears family is in our thoughts and prayers." "We at C&T Cycles are mourning with you and your family. Sending many prayers and much love!" a fourth added.

When is Devonnia Tscheulin’s funeral?

The funeral service for Tscheulin will be held on Saturday, August 19, at the First Christian Church in Scottsburg, Indiana.

Collins Funeral Home wrote, “Visitation 2:00 pm to 7:00 pm Friday, August 18, 2023, and after 10:00 am Saturday at the First Christian Church. There will be a scholarship set up in Devonnia's name for Scott County students wishing to further their education in the emergency service career field.”
