WALLED LAKE, MICHIGAN: A desperate search for a missing 36-year-old swimmer came to a tragic end on Friday, August 25 when divers found his body in Walled Lake.

The body of Adam Malecki was recovered by the divers with the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team (SSRT) in about 30ft of water approximately 500ft from the shore.

The incident remains under investigation by the SSRT. The Oakland County Medical Examiner will reprotedly carry out an autopsy is scheduled on Sunday, August 27.

When did Adam Malecki go missing?

Investigators stated that Malecki went missing after he jumped off a pontoon boat and began swimming with two friends between late Wednesday, August 23, and early Thursday, August 24.

As the weather became bad, the two friends rushed back to the pontoon boat but they lost sight of Malecki

They immediately contacted Walled Lake police, who reached out to the Oakland County SSRT. A rescue team came to the lake at around 1.15 am on Thursday and began searching for Malecki.

The divers were aided by the Southeast Michigan Dive Group, a coalition of local law enforcement agencies and fire departments from Genesee, Livingston, Macomb, and Wayne counties, Van Buren Township and the Michigan State Police created to respond to water emergencies.

The officials noted that the search became more challenging as the friends were unable to provide divers with an approximate location where they were swimming or where Malecki was last seen.

The divers searched the lake all Thursday before calling it off at night due to the stormy weather, according to Fox News.

After two full days of searching, the divers eventually found Melacki’s body around 7 pm.
