Michelle Wu is facing off city councilor Annissa Essaibi George in Boston's mayoral election on November 2. Winning this election for her would be historic as an Asian-American candidate fairing well in big-city races is rare. They are the country's fastest-growing electorate and of the country's 100 largest cities, six have Asian-American mayors, all in California or Texas, according to a New York Times article citing the Asian Pacific American Institute for Congressional Studies. A quick look at Twitter suggests Wu has a lot of support from Bostonians who are voting today. The polls on November 1 evening also suggested Wu was 30 points ahead of George.

"If Michelle Wu wins tonight, it’ll be historic in many ways — including being a visible working mom with young kids," a tweet read. Media personality Amaka Ubaka highlighted the fact that whoever wins between the two, the results would be memorable. "For the first time in Boston’s history, voters will ELECT a woman & non-white mayor. Michelle Wu is Asian American. Her parents immigrated to the U.S. from Taiwan. Annissa Essaibi George is Arab-Polish American. Her father immigrated from Tunisia. Her mother, from Poland." Another user tweeted, "Voting for @wutrain because I've rarely seen a candidate be so clear about not only what she wants to do, not only how, but also why. We need more people to express how they've come to their beliefs, and Michelle Wu does that." Another wrote, "Today’s going to be a good day because we will officially get to say Mayor Michelle Wu."

Who is Michelle Wu's husband?

"I’m a mom, a daughter of immigrants, and I fiercely believe that we can solve our deepest challenges through building community," Wu's campaign website reads. Wu is a daughter of immigrants and she got interested in matters of politics and how much the government matters after her mom began struggling with mental illness. She was just finishing college when Wu became a caregiver for her mother and helped raise her sisters. "In those days as we were trying to figure out how to go on in the depths of family crisis, it felt like we were alone, invisible, and powerless. In those days as we were trying to figure out how to go on in the depths of family crisis, it felt like we were alone, invisible, and powerless," she writes

Wu experienced the frustrations of fighting the system first-hand and realized it isn't designed to work for everyone. She went to law school to learn how to navigate and change the system so other families didn't have to go through the same challenges as theirs. She worked in City Hall for Mayor Tom Menino and Senator Elizabeth Warren's first campaign where she saw how the government and politics can help empower people after which she ran for City Council in 2013. Wu is married to Conor Pewarski who works in real estate and banking. According to his LinkedIn profile, he works at East Boston Savings Bank since April 2013. Prior to that, Yale-educated Pewarski worked at Wells Fargo. Pewarski and Wu got married in 2012 and the couple are parents to two sons named Cass Wu Pewarski and Blaise Francis Pewarski.
