SANTA ANA, CALIFORNIA: A teacher from California sparks outrage after claiming "childhood innocence" is a "mythology." Pre-K teacher William 'Willy' Villalpando said the idea of "childhood innocence" does not exist and that toddlers are not too young for the sexuality talk

"There is a common mythology that children live in this world of pure innocence, and that by introducing or exposing them to the real-world adults are somehow shattering this illusion for them," Villalpando previously wrote in a 2020 Instagram post. "Therefore, there is a banning of topics and issues that children should not be exposed to, as if they are not experiencing them already," added the teacher according to Daily Mail.

Who is William Villalpando?

From 2016 to 2021, William Villalpando worked as a pre-kindergarten teacher in Rialto. He is currently employed at Santa Ana College. Villalpando blamed the major culprits of "childhood innocence" on Christianity and White cis-gendered people for shielding children. He said that while children are taught about gender or sexuality talk, adults should "deconstruct" their viewpoints, adding these discussions don't always refer to "sex" talks.

"Not talking about Queerness in the Classroom, is NOT Letting Children be Children. It's Telling Those people They Do Not Deserve to Exist," he said in 2021. He added. "Kids are never too young." He noted that children can "have a sense of their gender identity" at the age of three to four months. "Around 3 to 4 months old, infants show a sex and gender preference in who they look at," reported the source.

'It's not okay to just forget about them!'

The California teacher added, "At 3 years old, a child can label their perceived gender identity. By 4 years old, children have a stable sense of their gender identity and have assumptions and beliefs of what they can and cannot do based on their gender (i.e. dolls are for girls, cars are for boys)." Villalpando who has starred in multiple podcasts The Play Based Learning Podcast to talk about gender and sexuality, claimed protecting children from sex talk can mislead them and cause confusion about their own identity.

"Parents haven't already had conversations about these things with their kids, that kids don't know, that they might be intersex, that they might be a gender... non-binary," Villalpando said. "And really, children have a right to see themselves in our classrooms. It's not okay to just forget about them or push them out just because it might make us uncomfortable or may make others uncomfortable."
