'Sonic 4' adds to it's stunning cast, finds Amy Rose's voice in 'Frozen' star
Amy Rose finally got her much-awaited introduction in 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3's mid-credits scene. 'Sonic 4' now sees the iconic character find her voice in Kristen Bell after her electric appearance in the last film.
Per The Hollywood Reporter, Bell has been tapped to voice the character in the fourth instalment of the series based on the Sega video game of the same name. The franchise now boasts a marquee roster of actors, with Ben Schwartz voicing Sonic, Idris Elba voicing Knuckles, and Keanu Reeves voicing Shadow as of 'Sonic 3'. Other major names include Jim Carrey as the villain Dr. Robotnik, Lee Majdoub as Agent Stone, along with James Marsden and Tika Sumpter as Sonic's adopted parental figures. Most of these actors are expected to reprise their roles.
According to Variety, "Metal Sonic, an intelligence robot with a dark side who appeared with Amy Rose, appeared in the mid-credits scene of 'Sonic the Hedgehog 3,” will also appear in the upcoming action-adventure, though a voice actor hasn’t been revealed." For those unaware, the mid-credits scene of 'Sonic 3' sees the titular character chased by an army of Metal Sonics. In the final seconds, a mysterious figure, later revealed to be Amy, saves Sonic.
Schwartz welcomed Bell to the 'Sonic' family with an elated post on Instagram. "WE HAVE OUR AMY ROSE!!! And I could not be more excited!!! Please welcome the incredible @kristenanniebell to the @sonicmovie family!!!" the actor wrote with a picture of the two holding a Sonic and Amy action figurine.
At the time of writing, there is no official plot description for the film. According to gaming history, Amy becomes Sonic's girlfriend, and that angle will be explored in the new film. The pink hedgehog had already left Sonic spellbound in her intro, and safe to say, there can be more spunky banter incoming when they interact in 'Sonic 4'. The third film established her as a savvy, calm, and composed character, with her hammer making her a more skilled member of Team Sonic.
On the casting front, Bell is a known name in the voice acting circuit. She voiced Anna in the hit 'Frozen' franchise, a sloth in 'Zootopia 2', and also served as the narrator for The CW's 'Gossip Girl'. She is set to reprise her role as Joanne in season three of 'Nobody Wants This' and 'Violent Night 2', a Christmas comedy starring 'Stranger Things' star David Harbour, Daniela Melchior, Jared Harris, Joe Pantoliano, Maxwell Friedman, and Andrew Bachelor. It is slated for release this December. 4.
'Sonic 3' was a critical and commercial success. It opened to positive, rave reviews from fans and raked in $492M on a $122 M budget. Jeff Fowler returns to direct 'Sonic 4' with Neal H. Moritz and Toby Ascher back as producers. With the three films combined grossing $1 billion, expectations for the fourth film are just as high. Paramount has pencilled a March 19, 2027, release date for the next film.
