Who is Shanon Gray? Kaylee Goncalves' family hires lawyer hoping to force cops to release Idaho case details
MOSCOW, IDAHO: The father of Kaylee Goncalves, one of the four University of Idaho murder victims, has retained a local attorney amid a deteriorating relationship with the police and worries about errors in the investigation into the quadruple killing. The Moscow police are yet to arrest a suspect as the investigation prolongs into the grisly killings in an off-campus home at 1122 King Road.
Ethan Chapin, 20, Xana Kernodle, 20, Kaylee, 21, and Madison Mogen, 21, were all asleep in their beds when they were fatally stabbed on November 13. With several suspects ruled out and no arrests yet, the case has grown increasingly challenging and delicate for the police, particularly in the face of mounting pressure from the victims' relatives and the community as a whole.

The family recently retained Shanon Gray, of Gray Law Criminal Defense, whose cases have ranged from kidnappings to drunken driving arrests. Gray, who began his career as a prosecutor in the Multnomah County District Attorney's Office, recently moved from Portland, Oregon, to Moscow, Idaho, Kaylee's father Steve Goncalves told Fox News Digital. In Sunday's interview, Steve told the outlet, "I have a lawyer for a reason," He added that he rarely communicates with police directly anymore. "They talk to my lawyer now," he added.
Wake Up Parents! is the name of attorney Gray's website, where he may be hired as a professional speaker on the drawbacks of social media. "Mr. Gray has an extensive knowledge of the law and the effects of social media on juveniles and has made a vow to alert parents to the enormous amount of danger social media can expose to their children," the website states. "Shanon Gray has been a criminal defense attorney for over 12 years handling all types of juvenile and adult felonies. Mr. Gray prior to becoming a defense attorney was a prosecutor for over 4 years and a police officer reservist. Mr. Gray has been on both sides of the table in the criminal justice system and recognizes the issues facing parents today," the about me section reads about Gray. Additionally, "Mr. Gray is the father of five children from the ages of 5 to 14 and has been married for 14 years."
The grieving father has hoped an attorney could pressure police to disclose more details about the case. "There are things that we can request and things we can do to get to the truth faster," he told the outlet earlier. "You have to fill out forms to get this evidence released to you. I don't know how to do that." Earlier, Steve said he has also hired a private investigator in the hopes he can help solve the baffling murders. The gumshoe is a former cop with 50 years of experience and an 87% success rate, according to Steve.
