Who is Shane Vaughn? MAGA pastor calls 'Barbie' 'toxic feminism', warns it will turn daughters into lesbians

A self-described constitutionalist, Shane Vaughn also claims 'Barbie' promotes 'turning men into boy toys'

CALIFORNIA, UNITED STATES: Pastor Shane Vaughn, who identifies as a MAGA (Make America Great Again) supporter, recently expressed strong disapproval of the newly released Barbie movie, raising concerns that the film might have a negative influence on young girls. The pastor has warned that 'Barbie' could potentially turn them "into the lesbians."

Vaughn made the controversial statement in a video posted on Twitter by Right Wing Watch. "We're living in a world that hates men, especially white men, and they hate patriarchy, they hate the head of the house. It's toxic feminism...and this is what the 'Barbie' movie promotes. The hatred of men, turning men into boy toys, emasculating men, while they rule." "There is a spirit that if you take your daughters or your granddaughters to watch this movie, you are turning them into lesbians," Vaughn added.

Who is Shane Vaughn?

Shane Vaughn is a small-town Mississippi preacher and self-described constitutionalist and history buff. He is also the founder of First Harvest Ministries in Mississippi. Apart from Vaughn, the movie, directed by Greta Gerwig, has faced criticism from many conservatives, including notable figures like Ben Shapiro and Jack Posobiec. 

Posobiec, another conservative personality, shared a video on Twitter featuring Ryan Gosling's character Ken singing a song in the film. Posobiec expressed his disapproval, stating, “Here is Ken singing about 'blonde fragility' in the insanely woke new Barbie This is possibly the most anti-male film ever made”.

The wife of Florida Republican Representative Matt Gaetz, Ginger Luckey, wrote, referring to Ryan Gosling, “He’s got major beta energy in this one.” Elon Musk, CEO of Twitter and founder of Tesla, also shared his response to the movie, stating, "If you take a shot every time Barbie says the word 'patriarchy', you will pass out before the movie ends."

‘It's a movie about a doll!’

New York Democratic Representative Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez addressed the criticism on the Threads app, stating, "Love how Republican Congressmen are just now hating on 'Barbie' because she's 'too woke'...like hello this was a doll made for little girls who was a DOCTOR and an ASTRONAUT before women in the US were even allowed to have credit cards without their husband's permission." "Of course they're mad! They want the old days back," Ocasio-Cortez wrote in the end.

Pop Culture reported that Whoopi Goldberg expressed surprise over the conservative backlash in a tweet, stating, "It's a movie about a doll! I thought y'all would be happy, she has no genitalia so there's no sex involved... It's a doll movie, I'm shocked that that's what's freaking you out these days." Despite the backlash, 'Barbie' has made over $100 million during its opening weekend at the box office.
