His girlfriend Maddy Nilles, has accompanied him to Paris to attend Olympics 2024, taking place between July 26 to August 11, 2024. Maddy Nilles is a former NDSU thrower who currently serves as Nebraska Track and Field Assistant Coach.
The Minnesota born athlete holds a personal best of 22.11 meters, achieved in 2023. Focusing on building on his recent successes, including his silver medal at the 2023 World Athletics Championships, he aims to secure a winning spot at Paris Olympics 2024.

The men's shot put will be a two-day event, scheduled to be contested on August 2 and 3 in Paris. As per the official website for Olympics 2024, men's shot put final will air on August 3 at 1.35 pm ET.
Otterdahl expressed his excitement to have his family and girlfriend watching his participation. “I should have a good personal fan base there. It helps that my family and girlfriend are going to be able to be there and support me and see it all happen. It’s always more motivating when I have those that I love watching me," Inforum quoted the athlete.
