Who is Molly Everette Gibson? Baby who is just 2 years 'younger' than her mom, 29, has broken all records
Miracles do happen. Molly Everette Gibson could be just a month old, but she has already made history. Molly took birth from an embryo that was frozen in October 1992, only 18 months after her mother, Tina Gibson, now 29, was born in April 1991. With an 18-month age gap between her proud mom and her, the 27-year-old infant has broken records now. “It’s hard to wrap your head around it. But, as far as we’re concerned, Molly is our little miracle," Tina told NY Post from her house in Knoxville, Tennessee.
Tina and her husband, Benjamin, 36, who have been married for 10 years now, went to National Embryo Donation Center (NEDC) after trying naturally for their child for five years. Benjamin was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis, which can cause infertility. The couple visited the center and were presented with the profiles of around 300 donors who had donated spare embryos following IVF treatment. “We weren’t picky,” said Tina, who works as an elementary school teacher. “We just wanted a baby," she added.
“It is very rewarding for me to see an embryo that was frozen years ago result in the birth of a lovely baby,” said NEDC lab director Carol Sommerfelt. “I feel honored to be part of the process.” “We were like, ‘That sounds crazy. No, thank you, we’re not interested'. Then we kept thinking about it and couldn’t get it out of our minds," recalled Tina of the prospect to conceive with a donor embryo.
As per the University of Tennessee Preston Medical Library's researchers, the "miracle" girl will be entering the history books as the longest-frozen embryo known to result in a live birth. Molly who took birth on October 26, broke the previous record, which was held by her elder sister, Emma Wren. Emma spent 24 years on ice (as in embryo) before Tina delivered her in November 2017. The embryos were frozen together and are complete genetic siblings. Both the embryos were kept at NEDC before getting transferred into Tina’s uterus.
Molly was delivered weighing 6 pounds and 13 ounces which is considered something of “a big deal” in medical circles. Tina said: “To us, it’s more unbelievable that we have two precious little children that we never thought we could have. We hold Molly this itty bitty baby and we feel blessed.”
