Lisa Hu, now 31 years old, has been removed from the roster of missing persons maintained by the Oakland Police Department on Sunday afternoon, August 20, following her revelation that she had never actually been missing.
What happened to Lisa Hu?
The perplexing case of Lisa Hu began on December 3, 2015, when she was in her early twenties. Her family reported her missing at the time, sparking a lengthy investigation into her whereabouts.
The circumstances surrounding her disappearance were shrouded in mystery. At that point, she was estranged from her mother.
She was last seen around the 900 block of 34th Street in Oakland on December 8, 2015. Her report described her as an Asian female with brown eyes and brown hair, about 5 ft 4 in tall.
The mother-daughter duo reunited recently, prompting them to jointly approach the Oakland police as Lisa found out about the missing report case that her mother had filed, per Hoodline.
They requested that Lisa Hu's name be struck off the list of missing individuals. In response to their plea, the Oakland Police Department promptly closed the case after careful assessment, as reported by New York Post.
Where was missing Lisa Hu for 8 years?
Crucially, their investigation determined that no malicious activity was involved in Lisa Hu's disappearance. Consequently, to preserve her privacy and dignity, the department removed all online posts pertaining to her case.
An official police spokesperson conveyed that Lisa Hu was found to be safe and was neither subjected to harm nor held against her will during her period of absence.
