LONDON, ENGLAND: 'Heartstopper' star Kit Connor is receiving support from fans and the show's creators after the actor revealed that he was "forced" to come out as bisexual.

The 18-year-old actor made a rare appearance on Twitter Monday, October 31, saying, "back for a minute. i’m bi. congrats for forcing an 18 year old to out himself. i think some of you missed the point of the show. bye."

Connor didn't explain why he felt pressured to come out. The actor recently came under fire for allegedly "queerbaiting" on social media. He was photographed holding hands with Maia Reficco, his co-star in 'A Cuban Girl's Guide to Tea and Tomorrow,' which sparked the issue.

One of the photos that fans are talking about shows Joe and Sebastian in an embrace and another photo shows them in matching jackets. Neither Joe nor Sebastian have commented on their relationship status yet, so I guess we've to assume that they aren't together.

The Netflix series 'Heartstopper' is the story of 'boy meets boy.' Boys become friends. Boys fall in love. It is based on the LGBTQ novel by Alice Oseman about two male-presenting classmates. Connor plays Nick, a popular rugby player who is not officially out but finds himself clicking with Charlie (played by Joe Locke), who is out of the closet.

Oseman, the show's creator, writer, and showrunner immediately shared her support for Connor in a reply to his tweet saying, "I truly don't understand how people can watch Heartstopper and then gleefully spend their time speculating about sexualities and judging based on stereotypes. I hope all those people are embarrassed as F***. Kit you are amazing." Kizzy Edgell, who plays Darcy in the streaming series, added, "i love u kit im sorry this has been so disgustingly rough on you. been treated so unfairly."

Following Connor's coming-out statement, many have rallied around the London-born star. A follower reacted, "heartstopper was the first thing to make me feel safe and accepted as a bisexual person, and seeing that hstwt bullied kit connor into coming out is absolutely gut wrenching. that’s the one thing that nick nelson was afraid of, and you’ve done it to the person who imbodied him." A fan tweeted saying, "i cannot believe that some of you are so insufferable that you watched a show about positive identity and forced kit connor to go through the exact thing that his character was terrified of." Another echoed the sentiment, "Coming out should be empowering, but instead, unfounded queer-baiting accusations have forced Kit Connor to come out as bi to everyone before he was ready. This is so messed up. I hope he’s ok and I hope the people who harassed him feel bad and actually learn something from this."
