Who is Josh Green? Hawaii governor admits he has no clue about 1,000 missing individuals amid wildfire
HAWAII, UNITED STATES: In the wake of Hawaii’s most catastrophic natural calamity, authorities are grappling with the daunting reality of a thousand individuals currently unaccounted for. The dire situation follows the devastating wildfires that unfolded on August 8 and August 9, which have already claimed the lives of 55 individuals.
Governor Josh Green of Hawaii has underscored a crucial distinction, clarifying that the count of 1,000 missing individuals does not equate to an assumed thousand fatalities. Rather, this alarming number reflects the unfortunate reality that communication channels have been severed, rendering their whereabouts unknown.
‘There’s around 1,000 missing’
Pressed for an update on the death toll, Green offered a candid response, “Honestly, we don’t know. And here’s the challenge: there"s no power, no internet, no phone, no radio."
He continued, “You compound some of that. So when we’re speaking to our officers, we need them to get a sat phone. There’s around 1,000 missing. It doesn’t mean that many have passed - I'm not saying that at all - but because we can't contact them we can’t know."
Green revealed that additional aid is being mobilized to aid in the search efforts. Specifically, cadaver dogs are being dispatched from California and Washington to provide crucial assistance in locating individuals amidst the devastation.
