With the coronavirus pandemic raging through the United States and Thanksgiving just around the corner, president-elect Joe Biden revealed his plans for the annual holiday. In a virtual briefing with frontline healthcare workers, Biden said that he and his wife, Jill Biden, will be celebrating Thanksgiving together with one another person. He didn't reveal who will be the third person joining him and Jill. Biden said, "It's going to cause problems in my family. I got a big family, you probably heard a lot about, we do everything together. We're just not going to – it's going to be three of us because you can't mix the families that have been away, that hasn't been quarantining."

Medical experts have urged people to not have large gatherings while encouraging families to hold virtual events. Biden continued, "So all these difficult decisions people are going to be making, we got to give them hope. We got to give them hope. And I believe there is a reason for optimism. Granted, it could come quicker if we move quickly. But there is hope on the way." To date, the US has seen more than 250,000 deaths due to the coronavirus.

Biden's large family consists of his two living children, both of whom are married; two brothers; a sister; and seven grandchildren. The family usually spends their  Thanksgiving weekend in Nantucket dining on lobster and turkey. But, this year, the Bidens are expected to spend the holiday at their Wilmington home. During the conversation with frontline healthcare workers, Biden said that everyone must follow the advice of experts and limit their holiday gatherings. He said, "Jill and I spent this morning, like many of you, trying to figure out what are we going to do for Thanksgiving. How are we going to do it? And would narrow down which family members and that they were tested, recently tested, within 24 hours. I would strongly urge for the sake – not just your sake, but the sake of your children, your mother, your father, your sister, and your brothers, there should be no more than ten people in one room and inside the home."

More than 11 million Americans have been infected by the coronavirus to date. Biden also urged people to wear masks saying, "Being masked saves lives. I just want to be sure we are able to be together next Thanksgiving and next Christmas. There's nothing macho about not wearing a mask."
