Who is Jin Chung? 75-year-old goes missing from Mount Baldy as search continues for actor Julian Sands
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: The San Bernardino County Sheriff-Coroner Department has confirmed that Jin Chung, a second hiker, has gone missing from Mount Baldy, the same place from where actor Julian Sands hasn't returned for a week now. The department announced on Monday, January 23, that the resident of Los Angeles has been missing since Sunday, January 22. The 75-year-old man was spotted last around 6 am after he carpooled to Mount Baldy with two other people, as per the sheriff-coroner’s department. Reportedly, all three decided to meet back at the vehicle around 2 pm, but Chung never showed up.
The officials searched for the man overnight, but it yielded "negative results," officials said. Merely, two weeks ago, actor Sands, 65, was reported missing in the Baldy Bowl area. The operation continues as the team deployed helicopters, drones, and infrared devices to find the 'Ocean’s Thirteen' actor this weekend. "Additional phone pings from the cell provider were attempted but were unsuccessful, due to the lack of cell service and most likely cell phone power failure," the department shared via a press release. It further updated, "Ground and air searchers were unable to locate any evidence in this area that would assist in locating Mr. Sands."

Last week, in a news release over missing hikers in the area, police said "Over the last four weeks, San Bernardino County Sheriff's Search and Rescue (SAR) teams have responded to 14 rescue missions on Mount Baldy and in the surrounding area." It added, "These rescue missions have been for lost, stranded, and/or injured hikers. Unfortunately, during these past four weeks, two hikers did not survive after falling and injuring themselves.” On victims, there have been two deaths due to injury after a fall."
Speaking about Chung's rescue operation, the officials stated that it will resume on Tuesday, January 24. However, helicopters will not be used while searching for the Californian man due to high wind warnings in the area. The sheriff-coroner’s department said since the ground search team will be looking for Chung now, it has also made most of this opportunity to search for Sands in ‘certain areas,’ as per People.
