Who is Dr Ryan F Osborne? TLC's 'Take My Tumor' doctor overcame poverty after father walked out on the family
LOS ANGELES, CALIFORNIA: TLC has unveiled a new medical series called 'Take My Tumor', in which three doctors remove tumors from individuals in severe situations. Renowned surgeon Dr Ryan F Osborne is one of the specialists featured in the series, tackling some of the most demanding cases in the new TLC series, which premieres Wednesday, April 3 at 10 pm.
Dr Ryan is a prominent specialist in head and neck oncology, acclaimed for pioneering life-saving surgical treatments. His desire to assist others began even before he became a doctor. As a youngster, he learned the value of community from life events that showed him the importance of collective support.
Ryan was brought up in Los Angeles as the child of a single, working mother. Despite having a father who abandoned Ryan when he was two years old, his mother was determined to improve their situation through education and hard work.
The compassion of their community enabled her to return to school and work full-time. Neighbors rallied together, offering their support as needed, creating a rotating system to ensure that there was always someone available when got off the bus, provide meals, or help him with his homework.
As Ryan grew older, he recognized how important this network of support was to his health and personal growth. The regular acts of charity, initially from neighbors, then community groups, and finally from local business owners, opened up new options for him in life.
'Take My Tumor' Dr Ryan F Osborne did his residency at UCLA Medical Center
Dr Ryan completed an advanced head and neck oncology residency at UCLA Medical Center, where he was mentored by world-renowned specialist Thomas Calcaterra, MD. Following his residency, Dr Ryan joined UCLA as an Assistant Professor of Head and Neck Surgery, where he received the Clinical Instructor of the Year Award for exceptional surgical resident instruction.
While at UCLA, Dr Ryan worked alongside Dr Thomas to give their patients the best surgical treatment possible. He left UCLA in 2003 to become the first Director of the Head & Neck Cancer Center at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center.
In 2007, he resigned to devote all of his time to promoting the objectives of OHNI and the Osborne Head and Neck Foundation, where he serves as President.

To observe and share ideas with other surgeons who share his objectives, Dr Ryan has traveled around the United States, Asia, and Europe.
In addition to being a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, a board-certified diplomat of the American Academy of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Dr Ryan is also a member of the Society of University Otolaryngologists/Head and Neck Surgeons, and a Triological Society member, among other organizations.
Dr Ryan F Osborne to tackle massive tumors on TLC's 'Take My Tumor'
Ryan, MD, FACS, is the Director of Head and Neck Surgery at the Osborne Head and Neck Institute (OHNI) and an internationally recognized expert in head and neck oncology. He has a specific interest in the treatment of parotid gland tumors and emphasizes the use of least-invasive procedures in the care of patients requiring parotid surgery.
He has developed several revolutionary surgical treatments, including one for accessory parotid gland tumors that involve no skin incisions and leave no face scars.
Dr Ryan, along with Dr Kimberly Moore Dalal, and Dr Jason Cohen will tackle some "most challenging cases of their careers" as they undertake the removal of tumors from patients. These cases include a woman described as "covered in over a thousand tumors from her head to her toes" and another woman with a 20-pound tumor that begins at the back of her neck and extends below her waist.
According to TLC, the patients, who come from all around the world, are "looking to get their lives back, and these surgeons are their last hope."
