MIAMI, FLORIDA: In a discussion, Col. Douglas Macgregor, a retired U.S. Army colonel and respected government official, sat down with renowned journalist Tucker Carlson to shed light on the critical situation unfolding in Ukraine.
Macgregor's insights paint a grim picture of the ongoing conflict and offer a stark reminder of the consequences that could unfold if the war continues to escalate.
Addressing the prevalent narrative surrounding Ukraine's military prowess, Carlson kickstarted the conversation by challenging the prevailing notion that Ukraine's army is thriving in its fight against Russia.
Colonel Douglas Macgregor warns of 'catastrophic war'
Expressing concern over the misinformation promulgated by the "lying Western media," Carlson warned that U.S. troops might eventually need to intervene to counter Russian President Vladimir Putin's advances. However, Col. Macgregor wasted no time in cautioning against such a move, citing the risk of plunging into a "catastrophic war."
“I think all of the lies that have been told for more than a year-and-a-half about the Ukrainians are winning, the Ukrainian cause is just, the Russians are evil, the Russians are incompetent,” Macgregor began. “All of that is collapsing, and it’s collapsing because what’s happening on the battlefield is horrific."
In the past month alone, an estimated 40,000 Ukrainian soldiers lost their lives, while many others were incapacitated due to injuries, prompting surrenders to the Russian forces, the Daily Caller reported.
Former Army officer Col. Macgregor expressed significant concern about the potential escalation of the conflict, particularly focusing on the grim possibility of nuclear weapon deployment.
The potential for "escalation" and the dilemma of opponents feeling compelled to resort to nuclear arms struck a chord of urgency in Macgregor's analysis.
Drawing attention to NATO's involvement, Col. Macgregor posited a scenario that would undoubtedly ignite tensions: the presence of NATO troops on Ukrainian soil.
He forewarned that this move would undoubtedly provoke Russia's ire, and in response, Russian troops could assemble along the Polish border, a NATO member country.
Ukraine-Russia war a 'no-win situation'
Highlighting the flaws in previous attempts to aid Ukraine, Macgregor stated that these efforts had failed, ultimately spurring Russia's readiness for an inevitable confrontation with the U.S.
“This is a no-win situation because the Russians, though they were not prepared in February 2022 for this kind of war, they are now,” Macgregor said.
“And they’re continuing to prepare, which includes continuous mobilization. They’re up to 750,000 troops in and around Ukraine. Most of them are on the outskirts of Bielorussia, Western Russia, down in southern Ukraine. That number is going to rise over the next year, I would expect to be 1.2 million.”
Macgregor continued, “Our intransigents, our demonstrated hatred and hostility for Moscow and for Russia has convinced the Russian people, as well as the leadership in Moscow, that they are going to have to fight us and anyone who is aligned with us. So they’re preparing for the eventuality. That’s why it’s so important that we have to wake up, understand what we’ve done has backfired."
"Whatever we set out to achieve has failed, What we need to do now is stop this and come to a settlement that we may not like. But it needs to happen and soon before this thing is out of control," he added.

The gravity of the situation hit home as Macgregor pivoted his focus to the United States itself. He raised the alarm that the consequences of the war could very well extend to American soil, with hundreds of Americans potentially fighting alongside Ukrainian forces due to President Joe Biden's authorization of combat pay.
“If you press this war with Russia in Central East Europe, it will reach us here in the United States,” he told Carlson. Contrary to public perception, Macgregor stressed that U.S. forces were far less formidable than believed.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy 'committed' to continuing war
Directing his gaze toward Ukraine's leadership, Col. Macgregor highlighted the unwavering commitment of President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his associates to continue the war.
“Zelenskyy and the radicals around him are basically committed to fighting this war to the last Ukrainian," he said. "And of course, I’m sure that Mr. Zelenskyy and friends are anxious at some point to retire to their estates in Florida, or Venice, or Cyprus to collect on the billions that they’ve managed to steal or siphon from all the aid that we’ve provided. Remember, Ukraine is probably one of the most corrupt places in the world.”
Macgregor said Zelenskyy is a former comedian who pretended to be a transvestite and became involved with an oligarch. He noted how the Ukrainian president had pledged to broker peace with Russia during his campaign and secured a landslide victory in the election.

Among his notable achievements, Macgregor commanded an early tank battle during the Gulf War and played a pivotal role as a chief strategist in planning the NATO bombing campaign on Yugoslavia in 1999.
