HOUSTON, TEXAS: Members of the Community of Faith Church in Acres Homes came together on Sunday, July 2, to denounce and pray away an unsettling incident of a demonic statue being placed at their place of worship. The congregation expressed their deep dismay and called the act disheartening and sad.

Bishop James Dixon, a prominent figure within the church, voiced his concerns. "It's disheartening. It is sad to think that people would do something like that," he told KHOU11. The church members strongly believed that the statue, symbolizing the Grim Reaper with a sickle, was a curse that announced death. To combat this perceived attack on their church and their faith, they decided to set fire to the statue.

Defending sacred ground

One church member passionately declared, "This is sacrilegious. This is holy ground. This is our church." The placement of the statue in a gazebo outside the church earlier in the day deeply disturbed the congregation. Bishop Dixon characterized it not just as an attack on their church, but as an assault on all believers of Christ. Hence the decision to destroy the statue, viewing it as destroying the works of the devil. "We destroyed the works of the devil," Dixon affirmed. "We've never had this before. So it hurts, you know, to know that this church does so much good for so many people."

Unfortunately, this incident follows another recent troubling event. Just a week earlier, the church experienced a theft captured on surveillance video, where thieves broke into the church and made off with a safe containing money and important documents. Despite these challenges, Bishop Dixon and the congregation remain steadfast in their faith and resolve. “We exist to make a difference, to make an impact,” Dixon said. “We feed the homeless and the hungry every week, hundreds and thousands, so everything we receive we need.” Dixon expressed his hope that such incidents would not be repeated, stating, "We're praying for the individuals to repent and turn themselves in." He refrained from disclosing the exact amount of money stolen, emphasizing that every dollar lost hinders the church's ability to fulfill its mission and support its ministries, KHOU11 reported.

Who is Bishop James Dixon?

Bishop James Dixon has been a prominent figure in the church since his youth, delivering his first sermon at the age of 15 in July 1978. In 1981, he was elected and called to become the pastor of the Greater Mount Pillow Baptist Church, now known as the Community of Faith Church. Under his leadership, the congregation expanded and relocated to larger facilities in 1986. In 1997, construction began on the current state-of-the-art worship and ministry center known as the King's Dome.

According to Community of Faith's website, Dixon's visionary leadership has grown the church from 150 members to over 3,000 current visioners. Additionally, he serves as a presiding prelate of Kingdom Builders Global Fellowship, overseeing pastors and churches in the United States and Uganda. Despite the recent challenges faced by the church, Bishop Dixon remains committed to making a positive impact in the community and continuing the church's mission of serving the homeless and hungry.
