Who designed Kamala Harris' hand-tailored cream suit for Biden's speech? Here’s where to buy signature pearls
President Joe Biden first joint address to Congress on April 28, 2021, is truly a turning point in American politics, seeing that it was the first time two women, Vice President Kamala Harris and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, sat behind a current US president during the same.
"Madam speaker, madam vice president. No president has ever said those words from this podium. No president has ever said those words. And it's about time," Biden said, referring to the historic moment. All eyes were on Harris as she exuded grace and power, styled in her signature monochromatic suit. From her campaigns to her public appearances, Harris's wardrobe is often rich in symbolism while maintaining her signature style. When she delivered her first speech as vice president-elect, it was a stunning white suit, an ode to the women's suffrage movement, which made heads turn. This time around the vice president's hand-tailored double crepe cream suit and ivory silk charmeuse camisole and an interesting take on her signature pearls is what truly stood out. Who's the designer? Let's find out.

Who designed Kamala Harris's suit?
The suit was designed by Prabal Gurung, a Nepalese fashion designer born in Singapore, who is now based out of New York. Gurung moved from New Delhi, India to study at Parsons School of Design and later interned with Donna Karan and was an apprentice to Cynthia Rowley. Over the course of his career, he's styled the likes of former first lady Michelle Obama and the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton.
The brand took to Twitter to talk about the stunning piece of clothing --"Vice President @VP @KamalaHarris wears a Prabal Gurung Hand Tailored Double Crepe Cream Suit And Ivory Silk Charmeuse Camisole,to the Joint Session Congress at the U.S. Capitol. The Internet was quick to discuss Harris' fashion choice for the occasion. "Here’s one way to @DefineAmerican: The country’s first Madam Vice President, the child of Indian and Jamaican immigrants, wearing a cream suit hand tailored and designed by @prabalgurung, an immigrant from Nepal who was born in Singapore. #StrongerinColour" tweeted a user.
"Vice President Kamala Harris can wear a pink suit and still look like a complete badass," added another. "Let’s not take anything away from talking about @KamalaHarris in terms of her accomplishments but MY GOD DOES SHE LOOK BOSS IN THAT SUIT," agreed a user.

The vice president's signature accessory has always been pearls and turns out, the symbolism goes back to when she was in Howard University, as reported by Elite Daily. She was a part of the Alpha Kappa Alpha sorority, which defines itself as "the oldest Greek-letter organization established by African-American, college-educated women." The founders and incorporators are referred to as 'Twenty Pearls,' with the pearl being a part of its imagery.

Harris has used pearls as her signature accessory for almost 35 years now and although it usually takes on a different style, the jewel remains the same. Although there is no current information on the piece she wore recently, you can purchase some of the other stunning necklaces she's worn before.
As reported by Harper's Bazaar, during the 59th inaugural ceremony, the one she was sworn in at, she donned her purple ensemble with a pearl necklace by Wilfredo Rosado. That particular piece featured gold open links, studded with 12 South Sea pearls and 11 diamond brilliants. The price of that particularly stunning piece can be acquired via inquiry through the designer's website. You can purchase the same one here.
