Where is Wess Schulze now? 'My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now' star goes on blind date after losing 338 lbs
BAY CITY, MICHIGAN: Wess Schulze has shed a significant amount of weight since filming 'My 600-Lb Life'. Wess saw significant improvement following his participation in the show, mostly attributable to Dr Younan Nowzaradan's weight loss regimen and bariatric surgery.
As viewers are aware, the desire and willingness to make better decisions are always the first steps. And following 'My 600-Lb Life', it appears that Wess experienced the same thing.
On May 8, 2024, 'My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?' aired in Season 9, Episode 2, which carried on Wess's story. Wess disclosed in the episode that he had not only had surgery to remove the lymphedema impeding his movement but that he had also been overcoming the unpleasant boundaries designed to confine us to our comfort zones.
Wess has been pushing his concerns aside and trying out stand-up at the Plaza Theater, in addition to returning to the dating scene (he went on a blind date!). Wess says he intends to have further surgery to remove the extra skin around his midsection if he hasn't already.
Today, Wess continues to work at the same desk job he had while shooting and frequently updates his weight reduction progress on Facebook and Instagram. But he can sit at his desk now, he says.
Wess stated on Instagram that although he had lost weight to 367 pounds a year and six months after seeing Dr Now, he had undergone several operations, including an urgent gallbladder removal in April 2024, which caused him to gain weight back up to over 400 pounds. On April 27, 2024, he was pleased to announce that he had managed to return to a weight of less than 400.
Wess is frank in both of his appearances on 'My 600-Lb Life', but sharing as much as he did wasn't simple for him to do with cameras in his face. According to what he told the viewers, "letting the world see that vulnerability was a challenge."
Similar to most 'My 600-Lb Life' triumph stories, Wess's life appears to have much improved after he made an appearance on the program and shared his experience. In a humorous statement, he said that he is "single and ready to mingle" if any men are able to "handle this level of craziness."
Additionally, viewers may continue to follow him after the broadcast as he shares more details about his life with his social media following.
Who is Wess Schulze in 'My 600-Lb Life'?
In his 'My 600-Lb Life' Season 10 episode, Wess reveals that his parents split up when he was a child and that his elder sister frequently looked after him because his father traveled much for work. There was someone "very sexually abusive" in his family, as Wess reveals in the episode, so he resorted to food for solace.
Wess Schulze continued to lose weight after 'My 600-lb Life' appearance
Wess weighed in at 705 pounds on his first appointment with Dr Now. Wess steadily lost weight by adhering to a strict diet and rigorous exercise routine; he weighed 413 pounds right before having his lymphedema surgically removed.
After seeing Dr Now for the first time, Wess lost 367 pounds in a year and a half. After 'My 600-Lb Life', Wess was obviously on the correct track with leading a healthy lifestyle.
He is still working toward his goal weight despite having shed 338 pounds. In February 2023, he posted on Facebook that he had put on a pair of pants that used to fit him but were now five sizes too big.
His growth seems to have no boundaries.
'My 600-lb Life's Wess Schulze working on mending relationship with father
Wess notes on 'My 600-Lb Life' that he had a tough connection with his father after coming out as gay. Wess first opposed his dad's attempts to assist him on his journey with Dr Now, preferring to manage part of it himself.
Wess and his father are still working on things these days, and Wess sounds hopeful about the future. About the relationship between himself and his father, Wess said, "It's continually evolving. Today was better than yesterday, and tomorrow will be better than today."
'My 600-lb Life: Where Are They Now?' airs on Wednesdays at 8 pm ET on TLC.
