Over the years, Guy Ritchie has meticulously carved out a whole sub-genre for himself. It is one in which the seedy London underbelly frequently spills out into the open, bringing about murder and mayhem. Ritchie's frenetic camera movements and use of irony ensure that one can't easily escape from his world. The British director has collaborated with several big stars in the past, including Jason Statham and Tom Hardy. Now, it has been confirmed that the Black Bear movie 'Wife & Dog' will be theatrically released later this year.

'Wife & Dog' brings forth another contemporary British stalwart, Benedict Cumberbatch, in his first collaboration with Ritchie. It is interesting to note that both Ritchie and Cumberbatch have, in the past, worked extensively with the character of Sherlock Holmes. While Ritchie directed the movies 'Sherlock Holmes' and 'Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows' starring Robert Downey Jr., Cumberbatch starred as the famous sleuth on the BBC's 'Sherlock' series. Despite having worked along the same lines, the two didn't happen to cross paths, and it is just a matter of time before the record is set straight in this regard.

ScreenRant reports that 'Wife & Dog' is set to premiere exclusively in theatres beginning October 23, 2026. The film is written and directed by Ritchie, and plot details are being kept under wraps for the moment. However, it is known that the film will focus on the battle for succession to the throne within the Fairbank family and their associates. This will, in turn, set in motion a chain reaction of betrayal and murder. Screen Daily further reported that the movie's cast comprises heavyweights Rosamund Pike, Anthony Hopkins, Paddy Considine, James Norton, and Cosmo Jarvis. Black Bear Pictures holds the distribution rights of the film.

While promoting his film 'The Thing With Feathers' last year in November, Cumberbatch was asked by Collider about his upcoming collaboration with Ritchie. The 'Doctor Strange' star took a moment to reflect on his working relationship with the popular filmmaker, before saying, "There are definitely elements to his genre, but I don't know. I think he's kind of augmented it with a really new flavor. I don't really want to give much away, but it's quite unique for him. It's quite unique. It's a very soulful piece. And yeah, an extraordinary cast that I got to work with, and a very different ask for me to be the kind of geezer Tom Hardy, Jason Statham type role. It was a blast. I mean, I love him. He's very uncompromising, very who he is. It's just very straightforward working with him. You know where you are. He's a lovely fellow. He's great."

Apart from 'Wife & Dog', Ritchie has several other titles in the pipeline. He is set to reunite with Henry Cavill on the action film 'In The Grey'. Ritchie is also helming the upcoming Statham movie 'Viva La Madness'. In addition to this, he will be directing multiple episodes on the sophomore seasons of both 'MobLand' and 'The Gentlemen', which are in production.
