When it comes to NFL legend John Madden, it is only fair that his biopic must be as sprawling and as larger than life as the man was himself. Amazon MGM Studios recently revealed the first teaser trailer for the upcoming 'Madden' biopic. The film will release on Thanksgiving, 2026. It is still unclear whether the biopic will have an official theatrical release or make its way directly to Prime Video as the designated streamer.

Academy Award winner Nicolas Cage is portraying the titular character of Madden, and from what appears on the trailer, he has done a commendable job of walking in the legendary NFL coach's shoes. As reported by Hollywood Outbreak, the 'Madden' plot chronicles the rise of John Madden through his early days as a Super Bowl-winning coach for the Oakland Raiders in 1976. After landing success, Madden went on to create a veritable empire out of the NFL in a way that hadn't ever been done before.

The Hollywood Reporter had previously explained that the biopic will also delve into the rise of 'Madden NFL', which happens to be one of the biggest video game franchises to date. The chief reason why Madden became a household name and rose to such a zenith of success is that he undertook considerable efforts to popularize the NFL. By targeting the everyday television audience with routine broadcasts, developing his own video game franchise, and establishing himself as a trustworthy brand ambassador for several corporate marketing campaigns, Madden was indeed a larger-than-life figure.

The biopic is written and directed by David O. Russell, known for works such as 'American Hustle', 'The Fighter', and 'Silver Linings Playbook'. The final screenplay of the film was derived from an earlier draft written by Cambron Clark. Alongside Cage, the movie features Christian Bale as Al Davis, the owner of the Raiders during Madden's prime. The rest of the cast includes Kathryn Hahn as Virginia Madden and John Mulaney as the founder of Electronic Arts, Trip Hawkins. Sienna Miller will also be seen as Carol Davis, while Shane Gillis will show up to play an undisclosed character.

As the foremost football icon of all time, Madden's popularity was further embellished by his ability to turn the average individual into an ardent NFL fan by virtue of his powers of commentary. Although he passed away in 2021, Madden's legacy continues to inform the national NFL tradition to this date. It goes without saying that Cage has a tall order to fulfil as the whole wide NFL world would be his benchmark.
