‘Harry Potter’ TV series finally gets release window as HBO drops trailer with Harry, Ron and Hermione reveal
The trailer for the 'Harry Potter' reboot series gives us a clear look at the new Harry, Ron, and Hermione and the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Based on J. K. Rowling's best-selling novels, the upcoming series is the first television adaptation. It follows the eight-part film series released between 2001 and 2011, and grossed a total of $7.7 billion at the box office. Francesca Gardiner serves as the showrunner, while the 'Succession' director Mark Mylod has been tapped to direct several episodes. The first season of 'Harry Potter' comprises eight episodes, adapting the first book from the seven-part novel series, 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone.' It is set to premiere on HBO in the United States and HBO Max in the United Kingdom during Christmas of this year.
HBO's trailer begins with glimpses of the orphan Potter's miserable life at the Dursleys', where he sleeps inside the cupboard room and becomes a punching bag for his cousin, Dudley. To make matters worse, Aunt Petunia taunts him by saying, "You think you're something special? There's nothing special about you." However, his life completely changes when he receives an acceptance letter from Hogwarts and meets Hagrid, who assures him that his parents were "the kindest, bravest people" he has ever met. The trailer showcases standout moments from the book, such as Harry racing through the gateway to Platform 9 3/4 to board the Hogwarts Express. Harry's first meeting with Ron and Hermione aboard the train, where Ron asks him, "Are you really Harry Potter?" signals the start of a lifelong friendship.
The trio is seen walking around Hogwarts and exploring its magical classrooms in the trailer. It also introduces us to the professors Snape, McGonagall, headmaster Albus Dumbledore, and other characters who will play an important role in Harry's fight against Lord Voldemort. Potterheads will love the attention to detail that makes the Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry come to life. Additionally, fans are sure to squeal with excitement while watching the montage sequence, which features the Sorting Hat, the Quidditch pitch, Harry's wand, and his broomstick, demonstrating that the series is a faithful adaptation of the book.
The HBO series is led by Dominic McLaughlin as Harry Potter, Alastair Stout as Ron Weasley, and Arabella Stanton as Hermione Granger. The ensemble cast also includes Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, John Lithgow as Albus Dumbledore, Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall, Lox Pratt as Draco Malfoy, Luke Thallon as Quirinus Quirrell, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch, and Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley. Bel Powley plays the awful aunt Petunia Dursley, Daniel Rigby as her husband, Vernon Dursley, and Amos Kitson as the bully, Dudley Dursley. 'Harry Potter' is executive produced by Neil Blair, Ruth Kenley-Letts, David Heyman, and Rowling.
