'City on a Hill' Season 1 gets a fitting end. The addictive Showtime crime drama ties up a major chunk of its loose ends and leaves the audience with just one question— what would Season 2 cover? When the crime drama began, it was a slow burner. The pilot episode went well over an hour and it took up to four episodes to establish the storyline, the characters, and its footing.

The crime series set in the early '90s Boston is rife with criminals emboldened by local law enforcement agencies in which corruption and racism reared their ugly heads. In this fictional account, Assistant District Attorney Decourcy Ward (Aldis Hodge) arrives from Brooklyn and forms an unlikely alliance with a corrupt FBI veteran, Jackie Rohr (Kevin Bacon). Together, they take on a family of armored car robbers from Charlestown in a case that grows to ultimately subvert, the entire criminal justice system of Boston.

Except, one's downright crooked and the other's got a moral compass and these factors affect the way they go about their job. The drama was created and written by Chuck Maclean ('Boston Strangler') known for his riveting screenplay. Ben Affleck, Matt Damon, Jennifer Todd, James Mangold, and Michael Cuesta form the team of executive producers.

Such was the success of Season 1 that it was no surprise when Season 2 was announced. That said, here's a quick rundown of where the series is at the moment, what the world hopes to see, and a probable idea of when the much-anticipated series returns.

Where we left off?

Jimmy's (Mark O'Brien) betrayal costs the family big time. The finale sees the Ryan brothers in custody following the botched heist in Fall River. Frankie Ryan (Jonathan Tucker) has realized that Jimmy was the rat. He arranges for his lawyer to set a trap for Jimmy. The name Kelly Kinicki has been this invisible ghost throughout the season and comes back to haunt them in the final episode.

Frankie thinks Jimmy would lie about Kinicki's death, instead, he confesses to the murder in court. This meant Ward (Aldis Hodge) essentially gave "blanket immunity" to a killer who just put away the armored car robbers. Jimmy isn't yet safe. However, he refuses to share any details pertaining to Rohr and that means Ward essentially lost the battle. Meanwhile. Rohr attempts to patch things up with Jenny (Jill Hennessy) and at the same tries to get back to Ward's good graces by arranging to have the Ryans' case moved to Suffolk county.

What we'd like to see?

More of Kevin Bacon, please. He was brilliant as a sly b*****d. He may have broken rules to get a job done, but he does so without a second thought and at the same time is mighty arrogant and proud of the way he goes about his things. His relationship with Jenny is another storyline that's worth keeping a lookout for.

When will Season 2 release?

Ideally, it should have released in 2020. However, with the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic putting production to a halt for the earlier part of the year, the idea is to see if 'City on a Hill' Season 2 releases sometime in June 2021, the same month it did in 2019.
