Netflix renews ‘Bridgerton’ for Season 5 — Everything we know after Season 4 buzz
The end of one love story marks the beginning of the other in the world of 'Bridgerton'. It was Benedict (Luke Thompson) and Sophie Baek (Yerin Ha) taking the spotlight in the recently concluded season 4. Now that Netflix has renewed the show for Season 5, the focus shifts to the sisters, Eloise (Claudia Jessie) and Francesca Bridgerton (Hannah Dodd). Earlier, showrunner Jess Brownell told Deadline that Eloise and Francesca will be the main characters in the next season. "Both characters with the initials on my pocket square will get seasons in 5 and 6,” Brownell said, wearing a pocket square with the initials E and F. "In what order? I can’t say." This story contains Season 4 spoilers.
Do Benedict and Sophie get their happily ever after?
'Bridgerton' Season 4 ended with Benedict and Sophie tying the knot at the couple’s My Cottage estate. Jonathan Bailey's Anthony Bridgerton serves as his best man, while Alfie (David Moorst) walks Sophie down the aisle. The series concludes with the question of who is the next sibling to get married, and both Eloise and Francesca smile, saying they are not ready yet. The latter is still seen in mourning blacks following the death of her husband, John (Victor Alli), who tragically died in Episode 6.
Who are Eloise and Francesca's love interests?
In the books, Eloise married Sir Philip Crane, a widower and single father. Francesca was married to John, and after his death, married his cousin, Michael Sterling. However, the show has made a change by gender-swapping him into Michaela (Masali Baduza). For those who remember the first season, Crane was played by Chris Fulton, and it remains to be seen if the actor returns to essay the role in the upcoming season.
The start of Season 4 finds Eloise disgruntled about the prospect of marriage. She is urged to spend more time with her sister, Hyacinth (Florence Hunt), in the hope that Hyacinth's romantic nature will change Eloise's mind. But John's death and Hyacinth's perspective on a relationship see her change her ideology. That said, she still suggests that a wedding is not on the cards for her.
As for Francesca, the love she had for John led her to explain that her late husband was her 'one great love' and that one marriage was enough. Now, things will look different for both characters with season 5 exploring their future.
When will 'Bridgerton' Season 5 premiere?
At the time of writing, there is no official word on the release date of the next season. The show has premiered in different windows since season in December 2020, each with a two-year break for production. However, the fourth season, releasing in January and February as a two-part volume, suggests another January 2028 window is likely.
The show's cast for Season 5 is not confirmed, but the names expected to include regulars Luke Thompson as Benedict Bridgerton, Jonathan Bailey as Anthony Bridgerton, Adjoa Andoh as Lady Danbury, Julie Andrews as the voice of Lady Whistledown, Lorraine Ashbourne as Mrs. Varley, Masali Baduza as Michaela Stirling, Nicola Coughlan as Penelope Bridgerton, Hannah Dodd as Francesca Stirling, Daniel Francis as Lord Marcus Anderson, Ruth Gemmell as Violet Bridgerton, Florence Hunt as Hyacinth Bridgerton, Martins Imhangbe as Will Mondrich, and Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton.
