Kit Harington’s new Charles Dickens adaptation ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ sets release date in first trailer
MGM+ recently released the first trailer for Charles Dickens’ adaptation ‘A Tale of Two Cities.’ The adventure drama is set to premiere on September 6, followed by weekly releases on the streamer in the US, Italy, Spain, Germany, the Netherlands, Belgium, and Latin America. As literature lovers are well aware, the original classic was published in 1859, and the storyline revolves around Paris and London during the French Revolution era. The series, of the same name, is written and created by Daniel West.
MGM+ describes the series as “Based on the classic by Charles Dickens, the best-selling English language novel of all time, A Tale of Two Cities is a timeless story of redemption through sacrifice, the agony of unrequited love, the inevitable, furious uprising of an oppressed people and, above everything, the power of family.” It features ‘Game of Thrones’ star Kit Harington caught between Francois Civil and Mirren Mack as the three are involved in a messy romantic relationship. The recently released trailer offers a glimpse of the upcoming four-part historical drama series. The storyline, set in 1782 London, features France and Britain’s ongoing war.
Mack portrays “an extraordinary young woman”, Lucie Manette. Her life is “Upended when she receives a message from Paris – her father, assumed dead for almost 20 years, may in fact be alive.” The messenger, French émigré Charles Darnay (played by Civil), then gets arrested for treason. As a result, Manette hires Sydney Carton (played by Harington) to free Darnay so he can lead her to her father in Paris. As things progressed, viewers witnessed an unexpected romance involving Carton, Darnay, and Manette.
The synopsis describes the complicated situation as, “Yet neither man – physically so alike, spiritually poles apart – can escape the other. Instead, they find themselves bound together in life and death; through triumphs, tragedies, marriage and murder.” ‘A Tale of Two Cities’ is produced by Federation Stories. It is co-produced by Federation Studio France and Thriker Films for MGM+ and the BBC. Notably, the team of executive producers includes Polly Williams, Sarah Best, Leo Becker, Hong Khaou, along with lead actor Harrington and creator West.
