Hulu is extending the future of ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives,’ but viewers will first receive a shorter fifth season. The streaming service has ordered 20 more episodes of the reality series, with production already underway. Those episodes are expected to be divided between Seasons 6 and 7, although Hulu has not confirmed how they will be released. The order follows an interruption that changed the structure of Season 5.

Deadline reported that Season 5 will contain five episodes instead of the 10 episodes released in previous seasons. Production was halted earlier in 2026 amid investigations involving Taylor Frankie Paul and a domestic dispute with her former boyfriend, Dakota Mortensen. Footage showed Paul throwing a metal stool during the incident, although the domestic charges against her were later dropped. Filming resumed without her before she returned to record material for the show’s introduction.

Season 5 is expected to address the events surrounding the production pause. Layla Taylor discussed the season during an August 5 appearance on Hulu’s ‘Get Real’ podcast. “It’s no secret that MomTok has been going through some drama this year,” she said. “It was the start of the blow up, it was definitely a darker season but a necessary one to understand where everyone’s at.” Hulu has not announced an exact premiere date, but Deadline reported that the five episodes will air later in 2026.

The incidents also affected Paul’s planned season of ‘The Bachelorette.’ ABC pulled the dating show after the footage and allegations emerged shortly after ‘The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives’ Season 4 premiered. Her status in the next batch of Hulu episodes had initially been unclear, but Deadline reported that she responded to a social media message by saying she would appear in Season 6. Hulu has not formally confirmed the returning cast.

Layla also confirmed that cameras are already rolling. “We’re filming Season 6 now. I am exhausted… we have this battle that all of the girls talk about,” she said on the podcast. “When we’re not filming, I miss it and, honestly, I get kind of bored and so much happens conveniently when the cameras go down so it’s like at this point, let’s just film the whole year.”

Jessi Draper, Jen Affleck, Miranda Hope, Mikayla Matthews and Mayci Neeley are among the show’s current cast members, but their involvement in all 20 episodes has not been announced. Whitney Leavitt has already confirmed that Season 5 will be her final season. Asked whether the next season could move away from the tone of Season 5, Layla replied, “fingers crossed.” She added, “There’s obviously always going to be drama with a group of women. I would like for it to feel a bit more joyful.”
