When is 'American Idol' 24's Disney Night? Everything you need to know about the magical theme
Since 'American Idol's revival in 2018, viewers have eagerly awaited its glorious Disney Night. This year is no different. In its most recent episode featuring the Judges' Song Contest, 14 hopefuls dwindled to 11. The show will now return on Monday, April 13, 2026, with the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Night episode. Disney Night will reportedly follow this episode, according to The Futon Critic. In the highly anticipated episode set to air on April 20, the contestants will perform iconic songs from Disney movies. They will likely be guided by a superstar mentor, in keeping with the tradition from previous seasons.
In the March 30 episode, the show was meant to determine the Top 12. But, for the first time in the show's history, the unprecedented amount of votes forced producers to postpone the elimination. Hence, the latest episode began with two contestants, Jake Thistle and Julián Kalel, leaving the show. The Judges' Song Contest then kicked off, and the Top 12 contestants performed hits from the 1990s picked by Luke Bryan, Lionel Richie, and Carrie Underwood. Live voting put Rae and Jesse Findling in the bottom two, and Lionel Richie, who had an advantage, saved Rae. This put an end to Jesse Findling’s dreams as he left the show.
The Top 11 now remain, and excitement is high as Disney Night is near. The Executive Producer and Showrunner, Megan Michaels Wolflick, shared with Billboard that the team backstage also adores theme nights like Disney special episodes. "Yes, we love that. I think Disney night and Rock & Roll Hall of Fame night are staples on the show now. People love them, and they’re super interesting and ever evolving, and there’s a wealth of mentors and experts who can speak on both subjects," the showrunner shared. Longtime fans are hoping that their favorite show ups the ante with a more elaborate setting, breathtaking performances, glamorous costumes, and much more.
Based on the last few seasons, one can expect that a mentor will guide the contestants during Disney Night. Lin-Manuel Miranda appeared last season as the mentor, so the expectations are high. Carrie Underwood is also expected to dress as a famous Disney princess, just like she did in her debut season. The singer appeared as Rapunzel from 'Tangled' and Alice from 'Alice in Wonderland' in Season 23. The entire set will also be transformed into the happiest place on Earth, and the Top 9 finalists are expected to compete in this round. With high-stakes performances and some Disney magic, the episode is set to be one to remember.
