'Ready or Not 2' moves up its release date, bringing the hunt to theaters sooner
The original 'Ready or Not' established itself as a cult favorite with deadpan humor and escalating gory horror being its pillars. Now, 'Ready or Not 2' is poised to showcase that same chaotic energy. The first part's clever twists and relentless tension helped establish Samara Weaving as a modern-day scream queen. The sequel promises another brutal ride, and a new surprise awaits horror fans as its release date is set to arrive sooner than planned.
'Ready or Not 2: Here I Come' from Searchlight Pictures has officially scored an early release date in theaters. As per comingsoon.net, the film was originally scheduled to release on April 10, 2026. It will instead hit U.S. theaters on March 27, 2026. This move has positioned the film away from other high-profile releases in the month of April, like the rom-com, 'You, Me & Tuscany', and 'The Super Mario Galaxy', set to dominate the global box office. This shift will give the horror follow-up a clearer box-office runway. It will likely stand out during its quieter weekend and reward viewers with a shorter wait, since the original came out about six years ago.
The plot summary for 'Ready or Not 2' reads, "Moments after surviving an all-out attack from the Le Domas family, Grace (Samara Weaving) discovers she's reached the next level of the nightmarish game—and this time with her estranged sister Faith (Kathryn Newton) at her side. Grace has one chance to survive, keep her sister alive, and claim the High Seat of the Council that controls the world. Four rival families are hunting her for the throne, and whoever wins rules it all." As the original ended memorably with the police asking Grace what happened to her, her deadpan response, "in-laws," now feels less like a punchline and more like a warning. Her nightmare continues in this awaited sequel with a new ritualistic game with more powerful families who indulge in satanic worship, echoing traditions she barely escaped, now with her sibling by her side.
As the first look stills from 'Ready or Not 2' were recently revealed, People also shared Weaving's reflections on reprising her role as Grace. "I was a bit nervous and not sure if I would remember what I was doing in the first one, but once I put that dress back on, I got super excited," she said. "The entire character came flooding back. We were all quite emotional in that fitting, actually. Revisiting the character is one thing, but working with that crew again was the best part," she said.
Apart from Samara Weaving returning as the lead, 'Ready or Not 2' will also star Kathryn Newton as Grace's younger sister. The ensemble cast includes well-known names such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, David Cronenberg, Elijah Wood, Olivia Cheng, Varun Saranga, Nadeem Umar-Khitab, Juan Pablo Romero, Masa Lizdek, Maia Jae, Daniel Beirne, and Antony Hall. Fans have already expressed excitement about the rare early release date announcement, a refreshing change in an industry more accustomed to delays.
