From embarrassing middle school photos, concerning meals to the outfit that didn’t suit you, there must be several things you ‘ate’ and survived. The latest trend on TikTok says the same, 'Things I Ate and Survived', it basically proves we should all know less about each other.

What is the trend all about?

As the name suggests, the trend is showing out the things you “ate”. Ate is a slang term for pulling something off, like an outfit or a photo shoot, which you might be embarrassed about.

It’s unclear who started the viral trend, considering the hashtag #thingsIateandsurvived has already accrued over 28.6 million views. As of April 28, it’s safe to say the trend has found its target audience. The trend basically brings back the humiliating throwback pic of your old haircut, old dressing style, or anything in the past you did, but didn’t let anyone know.

How to try this trend?

Unlike most trends on the app, you don’t have to make a video to participate. Instead, the 'Things I Ate and Survived' trend can be done with just two pictures, all thanks to TikTok’s carousel feature that lets you post pictures like a photo dump on Instagram.

The first slide features a photo of the subject, implies: your cat, dog, family member, or yourself with the text “Things I ate and survived” plastered on top of it. The second slide usually includes some sort of misdirect, like a photo of an old haircut that’s so bad or a throwback picture from your school days. People are already enjoying this trend on TikTok with no shame because the trend is seriously a comedy goldmine.
